Watching the Korra premiere made me really emotional about Aang. And I thought about how he must have taken Tenzin around the world, just like Tenzin wanted to take Korra, and shown him all the Air Temples. And I thought about how special that must have been for the both of them. Because Tenzin’s always picked on by his older siblings, but now he gets to spend all this time with his dad, the coolest dad in the world, and he gets to see all this history and bond with his dad more than his other siblings probably ever got to.
I can’t think of a single person in the world who would have been more psyched to be a dad than Aang, someone who didn’t get to grow up with his own parents. And I bet he was a great dad. And while he loved all his children beyond belief, I bet he had a special connection to Tenzin. Because Tenzin was the only airbender he got to meet since he was unfrozen. The only one. And he got to teach his youngest son not only airbending, but Air Nomad culture and tradition and I bet they baked fruit pies together just like he used to with Monk Gyatso and I bet they played air ball and raced on air scooters and flew on gliders and I can’t imagine how close they must have been.
And now Tenzin wants that with Korra, to teach her everything that Aang taught him on that journey together. Not just because he loves Korra as his own, but because he wants to feel that connection to the dad he must miss desperately. And maybe he feels like he owes Aang for the vital wisdom he passed on and maybe he feels like he can pay him back by passing it on to his reincarnation.
I just hope Korra gives him that chance.

For some reason, I could relate this to Joseph regarding his coat of many colors. There are abusive dads, then there are permissive dads, and there are authoritative dads that try their best. And then there is that precise type of dad as described in Genesis 37. Aang appeared to be that type of dad as described in Legend of Korra Season 2, Tenzin being his favorite son.

I think they should do a short about Aang and his family ~ I had just finished the last airbender and watching the legend of korra was a bit of a shock because Aang wasn't alive in it :3 but the legend of korra is a great series though nothing can beat Aang's randomness and Sokka's hilarious moments XD

I got sad when people said canon makes Aang sound like a bad father and that's not the point at all: he had a special connection with Tenzin that he didn't have with his other children, but that doesn't mean he loves them any less.

Tenzin might get that chance since Korra's dad's arrest. But now it's bittersweet because she'll draw nearer to him because she's hurting, not because she made the choice with a clear head.

It's been so annoying seeing people stating how Aang favored Tenzin (that's completely OOC for your own character, Bryke) whereas he most likely just shared a special bond because they were both Airbenders. And it's obvious that Aang bonded with Bumi (who gained his father's rambunctious attitude) and Kya (who took after Aang's nomadic ways), but unless Aang's personality did a 180 between AtLA and LoK, I can't see him (or Katara letting him) being the kind of father who was unaware of his children's feelings. The Aang we knew from AtLA would have loved all of his children equally, but would have also shared a special bond with each of them. Sorry about the rant.
As for this wonderful piece of art - I think it's absolutely beautiful!

I just hope Aang isn't the horrible father he's described as in LoK, because I'm never going to look at fanfiction and fanart the same way again. Why, Bryke, WHYYY?!
The art is beautiful, and I love how gorgeously simplistic the background is. And Tenzin's facial expression is so cute! And Aang's, because he's just so happy to be here, with his airbender son...oh my gods, the feels!

I like how you put it, gives a lot of life to the piece~ I believe Aang loved all his children as well but like you said a special connection to Tenzin because of they shared air bending ablilty. He would have to entrust the legacy until Tenzin who in turn have to do the same.

I completely agree with you, Aang would be the one to want kids and become a father. Probably before any of them even thought of it.
I really was upset Korra said she wouldn't go. He looked so sad, yet thanked her for letting him teach her. I do hope they end up back together as teacher and pupil, they are quite a comical duo and it would break my heart to see them separated for a long period of time uwu

I'm sure Aang had time for all of his children, and would never intentionally favor one above the others no matter what they could or couldn't Bend! But you have a point; there are certain things that only Airbenders can do, and Aang and Tenzin must've enjoyed their one-on-one sessions.

OH GOD YOUR DESCRIPTION No really though, reading that totally made me tear up. You're completely right. I got really emotional seeing Aang's statue. And then Jinora's face looking at it proudly and in awe. It shows how Tenzin's love for his father was even passed along to his grandchildren, who sadly, probably never got to meet Aang. But seeing the statue of Aang was like looking at a picture of an old friend
