You're utilizing typical tropes here, the lone character on the seemingly deserted barge, showing that he's going nowhere fast, the jesus-esque beams of sunlight that illuminate his situation, and yet, at the same time, don't fall on him, which makes him the perfect focal point, the deluded background lends our eyes to fog or distance and atmosphere, and definitely gives the idea of a journey, and the idea that he's leaving of his own free will, has no qualms about doing so, and has taken the "slow boat to china," if you will, so he has an ample amount of time to think about whatever is bothering him. I, personally, like it because of the dull colors and that's my favorite shade of blue, and i love your cryptic little scarf-sporting characters in odd situations.
As for technique? I know little about painting on the computer beyond that you and Palecek are really stinking good at it, but I do like this, we are aware that it is a piece of art, and not something we could step into, but it still conveys enough emotion that I don't particularly care that I'm not fooled into believing that it is real.

BEAUTIFUL!!!!! This must be the veiw people see when they disappear into the Bermuda Triangle; an empty sea and no communication.

Oh, I like that. Love the foggy shapes and the hugeness of the boat.
