Maui fishing the islands out of the sea with his grandmother's jawbone. Can't get much cooler. And it has a pigeon in it!!I love mythology!

WOOD PIGEONNNN~~~ Did you know they get eat berries and get drunk and fall out of trees? TRUEFACT.
And did you know Mauis' two brothers carved up the Fish and made it into the North Island of New Zealand? 8D
Seriously, the North Island even looks like a sting ray, GOLOOKATEEET. You'll see the resemblance.
And the Wood Pigeon was actually a good friend of mauis', he helped him out on loads of different quests, like the one when he gets FIRE. ;D

I saw Whale Rider (not the same myth, but heck it's a good movie anyways)
and I looked up all about the Maori and Maui and everything... I love this picture SO much more now. XD

I live on the mouth of that fish he caught. nice colours and textures there, looks almost like a wish you were here postcard that has been givin lots of love. And yeah wood pidgeons are that fat and plumpy. should of given Maui some moko.

I only know the Maori version of the story in which he s fishing with his brothers and catches a gigantic fish with a bone hook baited with blood from his nose because his brothers wouldn't give him any bait. Upon seeing the size of the fish he leaves to speak with the gods, telling his brothers not to touch it, but they don't listen and start hacking at the flesh with their knives. When Maui returned, he saw what his brothers had done and overturned the canoe in his rage. The conoe then became the South Island, and the fish the North Island of New Zealand, with the knife cuts in it being the mountains and valleys.
