Shortly before the Phillies' national championship victory, South Broad Street had a "calm-before-the-riot" feel to it, but with over 9000 riot control officers (white dots near the bottom), a true repeat of last year's madness was off the table; fans instead had to suffice with damaging their own brain cells. Light poles were greased (with non-flammable grease I might add), streets named after trees were blocked off, and the Union League was defended by mounted patrol, should the South make any attempt to rise again.
