Description        Shades of darker blue with lighter stripes, a patchwork of sorts
Stitched together with the half formed thoughts that drip from sleeping lips.
It pools on pillows that are freckled with tears or golden with hairs
That slipped from your scalp, loose and frayed at the tips
With little shreds of skin that spangle the cotton
Like the cold, dead flakes of light that pin up the black skies outside.
The sheet is a mosaic of creases, lines traced by dreaming.
Streaks of sweat like veins of silver in the crusty earth.
I rip the sheets from the bed and down it all slides.
A splash of tea, swirling and dark from a breakfast in bed.
Dapples of orange juice stretch across the duvet like slats of midday sun.
A rain of breadcrumbs hiding in the fabric's folds which prickled my sleeping skin.
Changing sheets, throwing out an old life
Dreams, memories, embraces, folded up and thrown away.
Purged with bleach.  Stripped and tumbled. White and bare.
So for a few days at least
I will sleep with all of you that I have left.
