No, he's not a merchant.He's an Monk adventurer showcasing a portion of his inventory. XD All those little icons in your inventory or stash don't look like much until you actually have them placed around you, then you realize just how much stuff you're carrying. XD
And yes, he's a Catfolk with 12 cats, I've drawn more cats in this single piece than all the other arts I've ever made combined. XD
