CLOUT STRUGGLE!
In our dnd campaign, we’ve willed into existence (and also my dnd cannon when I ever dm) a legendary warrior by the name Clout Struggle because we said both of those words in character and that needed explaining.
The story of Clout Struggle is a long and tragic one. Clout was born in the sewers of a grand city. To the wererats that raised him, he promised one day to be king. When the sewers were flooded out in a terrible storm, there was nothing left. As a lad, Clout took to become a traveling mercenary. He could barely hold a sword in his hands, he was so small. As he grew to a young man, so too did the legend of him and his sword. In battle, Clout Struggle was indomitable, his reach as long as he is tall, his ferocity of 10 thousand soldiers. No other warrior could get close to him. The company of fighters he worked for grew to great fame, and they became enlisted by the king. In the outbreak of a war, the kingdom was nearly overtaken, and the old king nowhere to be found. Clout and his friends alone kept the city safe. With the war won, the streets cheered the name of Clout Struggle, and the old king ceded his reign. Clout had indeed become king. Yet, his struggles were not yet over. Clout was not in fact beloved by all. A begrudging rival, General Saddeth plotted to take Clout’s place in ruler-ship. Though Clout was impossible to best in combat, General Saddeth convinced Clout Struggle that being king was not all that he had wanted. Clout grew longful for the mirth and days as a fighter, and so leaving his friends to enjoy what spoils he had won them, though with a few who insisted to travel with him. He journeyed on in self-exile far from the kingdom. In his absence however, General Saddeth showed his true colors as a terrible occultist and a tyrant. Years had passed when word reached Clout Struggle that he was needed again for what had befallen the kingdom was what seemed to be the end of times where the land was overrun by demons.
Clout and his remaining band of friends made one final stand to rid the land of this terrible reign and together they had won. The battle and legend of Clout Struggle has gone down in history, though, when the ash had settled, Clout was never to be seen again. A great number had given their lives in the struggle, but none greater than Clout. All that remained were but fragments of his shattered but once great sword. His friends each kept a piece with them. The largest shard was given to the kingdom, but two great halves of the sword seemed nowhere to be found as well. For what happened to Clout, perhaps he had got what he wanted, perhaps he died. Some say he and his sword were blessed by the gods. But all around, remember Clout Struggle.
It was a lot of fun trying to work with more faded colors and a style to make it look more like an in-canon painting– the reds showed up a lot more than I initially planned, but it works because colors have different lightfastness, and reds tend to be really up there, so oc they’d stay on the painting longer
