Description Daeron was a Sinda of Doriath, and a famous minstrel and linguist, and served as a loremaster to King Thingol. In YT 1300, he invented the Cirth alphabet. When High King Fingolfin of the Noldor held a great fest near the Pools of Ivrin, Daeron was sent as a representative along with Mablung. Daeron loved Lúthien, the king's daughter, who did not return his feelings. They were still good friends, and Lúthien would often dance to his music. However, when he found out about Lúthien's love for the mortal Beren, he betrayed them to Thingol, resulting in Beren's arrest. Lúthien, who did not know of his role in this, later sought his help in escaping Doriath, so she could help Beren on his quest. Daeron betrayed her again, though this time out of love and worry, and not jealousy. After Lúthien had fled from Doriath, Daeron followed her, but was unable to find her. He never returned to Doriath, but passed over the Ered Luin into the East where he apparently dwelt long after. The only other minstrels who came close to his skill were Maglor Feanorion and Tinfang Gelion. Daeron was originally envisioned as Lúthien's brother.
