Goddess Gandheshwari is an incarnation of Adi Parashakti. She is also known as Mula Durga. Gandheshwari (IAST: Gandēśvarī is worshiped by Gandhabanik community. As per Mahanandishwar Puran, there was a demon named Gandhasura . He was the son of Subhuti sage and Tapati demoness . Once Subhuti sage was insulted by Vaishyas for his mistake. Gandhasura wanted to take revenge. He killed many Vaishyas . He killed Suvarnavata ( a merchant) . Suvarnavata's wife ran away into a jungle and gave a birth of a girl. She was the incarnation of Bhumi Devi . Rishi Kashyap took her . When she grew up, she started Sadhana of Mahamaya to take revenge of her father's death. Gandhasura found her and became horny to see her beauty. He went to rape her .
But Muladurga Gandheshwari came from the fire of yagna to protect her . She killed Gandhasura.
We have found a different story of Gandheshwari from Bhava Puran.
Iconography:-
1) This is her local Iconography . Her skin colour is fair . She holds Padma( lotus), shankha ( conch ) . But this is not as per her dhyan mantra.
2) This is Muladurga. Gandheshwari is worshipped with the dhyanam of Muladurga . She is as green as Marakat jewel. She holds Chakra ( disc ), Shankha , Bow and Arrow.
