I really like this.

And I think it looks good just how it is. The fact that it is so dark adds to the mood.

You can't really see the piano, just the keys. Like they appear out of nowhere, and stretch into the distance.

I think with more lighting you risk it being too bright and distracting (light reflects quite harshly off piano keys).

The more I look at it the more it grows on me. I find it almost emotional. But that might be the fact that I completely adore playing.

I'm not sure I agree with the low contrast levels. Yes, maybe have some spots a little duller but have an area which has a higher contrast level. Possibly a radial high contrast beginning at the focus point moving out to darken the out of focus areas.

Impressed you could find the right conditions to have all the surrounding space entirely blank. I tried this with my piano and there was just so much clutter in shot, from the same angle you have here.

this picture is great. i love how the darkness removes outside detail and brings focus onto the keys. keys that seem to go on forever and are wonderfully lit in this soft, modest way. great pick.

oh, and glad to be in your work group

the actual fact the the picture is "too dark" as one comment puts it, just adds that extra sense of depth to it, rather than if you had lit the enitre set of keys off camera. was there any further darkening of the image? overlay blending in photoshop or anything? depth of field in the picture is interesting and quite good, given the lighting, it does make for that endless set of keys, trailing off into the distance - tho from my perspective, it does seem a bit 'centred', if you get me. the shot is almost bisected diagonally from the keys, a little bit off centre might provide an interesting look. the camera itself is quite nice, 4mp right? you use the natural b/w mode on the camera or edit it yourself?

It has been darkened a bit in photoshop just as you suspected. But it is in full color, not b/w, it just looks like b/w since, um, well... since the keys are just b/w
