That's right. The moon is being terraformed. It already has an atmosphere.

So, that moon was completely different from today's moon?

Hope more people thinks that way. It would be GREAT to get paid creating conceptual art for games, or designing scenarios.Β

I love the patterns on the lunar soil, it reminds me of wabi-sabi garden designs. Those clouds are a work of art in themselves, too!

The year 30,000.Β Finally, someone who gives a realistic time frame for something which may happen in the future!Β "Terraforming the moon?Β Oh, we'll be there by 2025!"Β Riiiight...

Well... mankind could have started earlier.Β
In my fictional timeline,Β current human civilization colapses sometime around the year 7000, and after that there is a brief period of barbarism followed by a very long period of low-tech civilizations rising, falling, and battling each other. It's not until the years 17,000 that mechanized industry and space travel are reinvented. And this painting is more or less 13,000 years after that.Β
So they have been terraforming for a period of 11 or 12 thousand years.
Complete terraforming doesn't happen until the year 40,000. Β

Not really. It's just a story, a loose connection between some of my paintings about terraformed landscapes.Β

I can't get enouph of your work, they're wonderful. The older piece, as someone else pointed out, has it's own appeal. They're both fantastic, enouph that they can stand in their own merit. Both Earths looks great, butΒ the original has an interesting and visually pleasing hazier effect, being more distant. This one has that wicked raging sandstorm. Awesome!

Thank you very much for your kind comment, Christine.
Another great difference between them (Which I forgot to mention) is that the original measures more or less 50x36 centimeters and the remake it's my biggest painting to date: 110x75 centimeters. It's a very immersive experience when you look at it.
Best regards.Β

Oh, cool! I didn't knew about those books until now but they look neat.
This painting was inspired by a book, but none of the Darkangel trilogy. My book it's Stepen's Baxter "Moonseed". I wish I could contact him to show him this artwork...

To be truthful I like the old one more. The technique is better, but the warm colors on the original appeal to me more. Furthermore the dust clouds looked "cooler", this is more dynamic and unsettling I would say. Also in version from the 2013 the small glow, especially on the north pole gave it a nice touch. Although this one have better terminator line, clourds and the reflection on the surface looks nice.

Thanks for your opinion.
My intention on this painting was to make it look more unsettling and unfriendly to human life. I wanted to give the viewer some diffuse feeling of menace. Yes, the sky is blue and the sunlight is Earth-like, but this is still an alien and dangerous world. Something's not quite in place and you can feel it. It's a huge, strange, dry; empty and lonely world.Β
