DAY 334

Star vs the Forces of Evil I've got mixed feelings about. It's got a neat premise with a young girl from another dimension having to be separated into our dimension to combat an evil force. The animation does have the same tiring "2010s TV animation basic design" and it's in flash, but is it really expressive and flows really good (in the same way as the new Mickey shorts). The characters are alright, the story arch is continuing, the theme is even with My Little Pony and hardcore action and there's been a lot of regular praise from people, so why don't I see it as that great? I can't put my finger on what it is. Maybe it's just maybe a little too hyper at times and some of the characters don't seem too developed (even though it's been 2 seasons), I dunno. Maybe if I bingewatch from the start, my thoughts will improve and change.
Pickle & Peanut is Disney's answer to Nickelodeon's Breadwinners.............. and with that tidbit you can see the problems immediately. When I saw the first ads promoting it, I was just "Oh my God, Nickelodeon, really? You're making ANOTHER Breadwinners?" TV: Pickle & Peanut, coming soon to Disney XD! ..................... what? DISNEY signed to make this? You can't go from Gravity Falls to one of your TV rival's worst current shows! And there's nothing else that can be said since it's got the same stupidity, poor Photoshop excuse of animation like Fish Hooks (only worse), no plots and just pandering, obnoxious stupid idiots as the leads, you'd get better enjoyment throwing this into a trash compactor. Stay away from this 'cause there's no purpose for its existence and it's just not worth caring about. And the same thing can be said with Future Worm. It looks loud, annoying, colors so bright it hurts, no pacing, characters we're supposed to like but are really assholes, only instead of ripping off Breadwinners, this feels like it's ripping off Adventure Time.
So ever since Phineas & Ferb finished their summer shenanigans, what was Disney to do? Make another show, of course (and ironically taking place at the start of a school year)! Enter Milo's Murphy's Law, which came out just this fall. Once PnF ended, I was sad like everyone else but with news that the creators would make a new show, I saw so excited. I didn't know of its premise, but the fact that lots of the old PnF staff would be back and it'd star Weird Al Yankovic (insuring a few songs here and there along with Danny Jacob)? Kept getting hooked and even though it'd just 2 months old, wasn't disappointed. All the things that made PnF great and unique are found here with Milo. It takes a simple repetitive premise that offers plenty of possibilities (the theory of Murphy's Law in that everything that can go wrong WILL go wrong), it's evenly grounded in reality and classic cartoon tropes, the action, escalation and jokes are on point (especially when dry casual dialogue is thrown in), the animation's got the same simple approach like the massive backgrounds waiting for adventures to happen and the geometric character designs (but yeah, Melissa looks a little TOO much like Candace), the characters are enjoyable from their quirkiness and acceptance of chaos happening 24/7 (especially Milo knowing how much of a jinx he is), the voices do a great job and the songs have been catchy (I hope Al will get to write a few songs alongside Danny). There's no recurring antagonist or B-story like Perry vs Doofenshmirtz but with the "what could POSSIBLY go wrong?" theme, you don't really need an antagonist since the world's out to get you. It's like the chaotic nature of Everything You Know is Wrong and Albuquerque became a show and it's been a great world that we're all livin' in so far. Don't know how long it'll run, but it's sure to be a lot of fun.
