Description DAY 100

101 Dalmatians because... well, take a lucky guess why. & don't bother telling me, I know I didn't draw 99 puppies. I guess since it's also national siblings day, this film makes sense, since there's 99 puppy brothers and sisters in it.
It's strange with this one. I had this with one of my VHS collections, but I didn't watch it that often. I remember seeing stuff from the live-action version more than the animated. This was the first animated film Disney made in the 60s. It's broken into 2 halves. One is the slice-of-life romance between the Radcliffes and their Dalmatians and the second half is similar side to the Great Mouse Detective. (a supposed mystery but replaced with the adventure. The setting is nicely domestic (this was the first non-package Disney film to take place in the present-day year it was released), the involvement both the humans and dogs add to their lives are nice (especially if you have a dog and are always with them) and there's the usual British homeness I've mentioned before in past drawings. Speaking of drawings, the animation is also a marvel. It broke new grounds with its rotoscoping and Xerox technology to save money with ink and painting process. Not only that, but you've got Chuck Jones, some intense action scenes, a new design style and exactly 6,469,952 spots. The characters are all pretty good. Pongo and Perdita are both nice supportive caring parents, same can be said about Roger, Anita and Nanny, Horrace and Jasper are classic villain sidekicks, the puppies are mostly one-note but since there's 99 of them it makes sense that they don't have much involvement, the animals that help the Dalmatians help as well as they can and Cruella is an instant-classic villain. She's classy and quick-tempered, she's fashionable and ugly. It's not really a musical, but the score has a nice jazzy sound. In fact, there's only 2 songs and even though they're brief, they're done OK (one more noteworthy than the other). It was a good way to start the 60s.
