It's an inhabitant of the Malthalassa of eastern North Iapetus.
You do the metamath.

YES.
That there were no overt mass extinctions is one of the whole points about Tlaquanaru.

AND no sentient species... I've had a stupid theory that mass extinctions were almost always caused by certain species developing a civilization, self-destructing and killing off biodiversity. So therapsid people caused the big one in the permian, and intelligent dinosaurs at the K-T... a stupid theory, but entertaining nevertheless.

Dolphin, elephant or chimpanzee level of sentience, but no people-level sentience.
...
And how did you explain the Ordovician or Devonian extinction events?

I do not really care, the water should add some darkness to it!!@!

oh and as a side note the triops are doing quite well, I count 8 of them and as soon as I get around to it I will sift through all the video clips I am making and get some stills for you.

It looks quite formidable; does it search for prey by touch? or by other sensors?

Using taste, it selectively grazes for bacterial biofilms composed of specific strains, and scrapes away whatever it doesn't eat.
