Description
Three character from my in-progress, unpublished novel-thing. Technically, it's sci-fi, not fantasy (the mermaid is genetically engineered from human stock, not a different species, and it happens in the future with space ships and stuff) but visually it looks like fantasy, so in the fantasy section it goes.

Arun : cheerful, nerd/jock mix. He's a nice guy who's had an easy life, so he doesn't worry much. He's working on his doctorate on extraterrestrial submarine invertebrate life, especially the kind that lives around volcanoes. In other words, he studies alien shellfish and creepy-crawlies. u___u;; His hobbies include diving, environmental activism, and laughing at people who takes academics too seriously.

Liadan : appears sweet and obedient, but that's because she's an adept of the "yes dear, whatever you say" branch of the school of I'll Do Whatever I Want, Thank You. Her job within her nomadic clan consists in planting useful or tasty seaweed along their path, so that when they come back the year after that they have something to eat or make nests with. She's also mildly telepathic.

Krish : A secondary character, Krish is Arun's coworker. Her field of study is geology, especially the volcanic kind. She happens to like rocks a lot better than people. She does have a few friends, and she isn't totally devoid of empathy, but most of the time she likes her quiet and solitude. She's also a very structured person who doesn't like it when rules and laws are broken.
