Edit: Now with 20% more swirls!Heh, the title has no meaning. I just forgot the draik's name.
This is a long overdue piece I owed to perdurue of Neopets. She made a hefty donation to Keegan's Pirate Paint Brush fund and I asked her what I could do to repay her and she requested a picture of her new shadow draik. I, of course, had to oblige especially after hearing about her design. I had SO much fun with the little swirlies!
I have to credit my dragonomicon(sp?) because I referenced the anatomy of a silver dragon.
I also referenced a pet design from Subeta.com because that's what she asked the swirls to look like.
This was done fairly quickly so I suspect there are many errors.
I'm honestly pleased enough with it to call it done. Character design Β© perdurue

I like those swirly patterns, just my style (if I could draw like that that is). I donΒ΄t know why but it has egyptian feeling to it and not just because the ankh.

I believe she was going for an Egyptian theme with her I'm not sure. The patterns, or how she discribed them, made me think of Indian Mehndi- if I'm spelling that right.

The dragon's expression is really peaceful, too. Kind of different, and a welcome change. The swirls are amazing- I can't imagine how long it must have taken to draw those.

I got a sense from the description of the character that she was a calm sort of person (dragon) and I'm glad that shows. ^^ The swirls took the least amount of time out of the entire thing and was the most fun to do! I want to do more of this character just as an excuse to draw more swirlies though I'm sure they'd be different each time I drew them!

Drawing parallel lines is one of my greatest difficulties, so I appreciate people who can do that sort of thing.

I think I know what you mean. The trick is, I think, with markings is the shading. To make sure you shade the markings in the same places you shaded the base skin/scales/fur.
