Loving the overall design of this character especially the color palette. Overall, well done on the composition of this piece with the angle and the atmosphere. Keep it up!

This is beautiful. I love his look of resolve. Is he your own character in the game?

Thank you for the kind comments!!! Yes, its a she actually, but I was trying not to over sexualize her but I guess it made her a little too male like.

Euskelo In reply to artofrussell [2014-11-12 16:48:05 +0000 UTC]

Not at all. She is an androgynous figure (and I guessed male), but there is nothing wrong with that. It makes her more intriguing, if anything.

Hahaha thanks for putting the reason for me!! Gladly appreciate it.

Now it would be nice to see how the looks of my character can add on to how she plays out!

What system are you playing her in?

artofrussell In reply to Euskelo [2014-11-13 11:21:27 +0000 UTC]

I'm playing her in pathfinder. There seems to be many funky races and classes and I'm trying out something fun while playing with friends who are new to DnD.

Ah, brilliant. I hope you have fun, and your friends enjoy their introduction to DnD!

Thanks! Do you play too? I am also playing 5th ed with another group and I felt that it was the best DnD I've had so far!

Euskelo In reply to artofrussell [2014-11-13 11:48:39 +0000 UTC]

Good to know 5th Ed is decent! I have played a bit of Forgotten Realms, though it suffered because our GM was more interested in creating exquisitely complicated battles than any other aspect of roleplay... Right now, I mostly play 40k RPGs like Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader and Only War. I would recommend them if you like dystopian sci fi!

Ah, that's a pity, because the roleplaying elements for Dnd is so great!

I've heard of those, but don't have the time to play them yet, and I really enjoy playing xenos more which I heard isn't in.

There are rules for playing an Ork, Kroot or Dark Eldar and it would not be too hard to come up with others, based on NPC stats, if a GM were so inclined. DnD does have a lot of potential, though I like sci fi better, so at least there is that.

Ah that's good! I wanted to play Tau, but also its pretty hard to play a roleplay for 40k I feel as the races have a certain distaste for one another. Something which I find would be quite intimidating to start! The only sci fi RP I have played is star wars which was pretty fun as well although imbalanced.

Euskelo In reply to artofrussell [2014-11-13 13:46:02 +0000 UTC]

It depends which game you play. Rogue Trader is best for xenos integration. In my game, we have to Tau players and they are an accepted part of the crew (alongside an Eldar pilot). Providing you have a tolerant group (rare in the 40k universe, but not unheard of) then you can play pretty much any xenos and have fun.

Heh heh, I have heard Star Wars is not a very balanced system. I am not so keen on the whole concept. Surely jedi are just inherently better than any other kind of player, before you even begin?

Oh then I think you just peaked my interest in rogue trader! Hahaha. Although it is rare to find anyone in my area that plays 40k RPG, but I guess I can look around. I think I could be interested in deathwatch as well, although marines are too single minded for me, compared to an inquisitor or even a guardsman.

Well they aren't typically powerful without the force, but the force is like magic in old DnD where it can just destroy everything... Hahah, it was fun while it lasted.

Euskelo In reply to artofrussell [2014-11-13 13:57:19 +0000 UTC]

Rogue Trader is the most wide open of the different games, definitely. You could work xenos into a Dark Heresy campaign as well, if you wanted to, though of course you would be somewhat more restricted in what you could do and where you could go (because the average Imperial citizen would be horrified by xenos amongst them). Marines can be good if you think about their personal history and motivations and go beyond 'mindless killing machine'. Generally, of course, the game is more geared towards combat than expansive roleplay.

Star Wars might work better if there were no jedi in the party... but I would imagine many players would be disappointed with that.

Hahaa yeah, that's the only thing I'm worried about, but a daemon incursion might set many races together to achieve a common goal easily. I think for marines its easier to be straightforward, unless there are different chapters that are odds with one another that could make it more interesting.

Yeah, star wars could be fun, either that, or the rest of the party are jedis!

Euskelo In reply to artofrussell [2014-11-14 09:28:30 +0000 UTC]

As you may know, the idea of Deathwatch is that teams are made up of Marines from different Chapters, which indeed adds to the flavour of campaigns. A daemon incursion is always a good way to get disparate groups working together!

Yeah, that's true too. I heard my friend playing deathwatch saying that they only praised the emperor though.

Perhaps reading some black library books may help me find the character I would love to play!

Euskelo In reply to artofrussell [2014-11-14 13:42:04 +0000 UTC]

I would recommend the Eisenhorn Trilogy by Dan Abnett as a great starting point. That deals with the adventures of an Inquisitor and his retinue. If you like Eldar, then Gav Thorpe's trilogy is well worth a read. For Dark Eldar, Andy Chambers' trilogy is good.

Do you think maybe Black Library like things in threes...?

The early Horus Heresy books are excellent, too. They focus on the Space Marines, but in the first few books their characters are really well portrayed and the stories are interesting. Now, the series has gone on a bit too long. I stopped reading it around Book 18. Still totally worth reading the earlier ones though!

artofrussell In reply to Euskelo [2014-11-15 15:48:13 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, heard of the series' greatness! Well compared to the rest. Gav thorpe did the striking scorpions book right?

Hahaha, I believe alot of great developers and directors like threes. The Von carstein trilogy is also in 3 parts I think.

Wow, there is 18 books!?!?!?!? Hahaha, not too big a fan of marines, but the few primachs I think are cool are Sanguinius, Corax, Magnus and Fulgrim!

Euskelo In reply to artofrussell [2014-11-17 12:08:45 +0000 UTC]

I think there are more than 18 books now! Sanguinius puts in an appearance in the first book, as I recall (and later on Fear to Tread is about his Legion). Fulgrim (unsurprisingly) covers Fulgrim and the Emperor's Children. A Thousand Sons tells Magnus's story and Deliverance Lost is all about Corax.

Oh wow, that is a whole lot of them! And thanks for the heads up on those books and their information.

Perhaps I will try A Thousand Sons first, since I have heard pretty good reviews on it

Euskelo In reply to artofrussell [2014-11-17 15:08:29 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that is an interesting one. Might be good to read the first couple of books at least to get an idea of the setting (plus they are good books) then just dip into those that appeal to you most.
