i layered;
1st graphite B for the whole thingie
then marking out the dark areas with a 9B
then the eye lashes and pupil with a GROG marker,
darker shades in the iris with a black sharpie
then i kinda got bored with the greys and layered the iris over with inktense inks and finished it off with some laquer to make the iris all shiny
