Description
Deforestation has taken their home, leaving these 10 owls no choice but to seek shelter in one single tree. They aren't too happy about it, but what else can they do?
This is my newest project for the Cameron Art Museum's annual exhibit, "Illumination." This is an art lamp from gourds and clay. The main shape is a large "basketball" gourd. 2/3rds of it is carved to resemble a forest in silhouette, while the front features 10 different owls sculpted with epoxy clay. All of their eyes glow when lit and are made of painted/inked acrylic cabochons. Painted with acrylics. It's mounted on a cedar driftwood base with LED light fixture. Measures 15 inches tall. 52 hours of work.

You can see this on display at the Cameron Art Museum starting December 9th 2018 through January 16th 2019.
