Description
Lysithea hated being short. It might not have been so bad if there were others closer to her height, but she was the shortest of her classmates by a fair margin. Having to look up at them made her feel small, undermining the image of a mature, collected woman she do desperately desired. She needed to grow, and fast. To that end, in secret, she started studying spells that might give her a height boost.
Lysithea's search was fruitless, for a time. However, one day she happened upon a tome in a dusty, long forgotten corner of the library. She opened the book and keenly scoured its pages, looking for magic lost to the ages. One spell in particular caught her eye. It was hard to tell from the antiquated text, but it seemed to describe a spell for growth. Lysithea gasped in surprise. This was exactly what she had been searching for!
Only... The spell was not usable in its current state. Lysithea needed more time, to study and rewrite the spell, before she could have the height she so desired. However, thanks to her dedicated efforts and hard work, she managed to complete it. Writing the last of her notes on a piece of parchment, she sighed in relief. She was so excited, she could not wait to cast it. Glancing over her shoulder, she saw the classroom was mostly empty. Her Professor and the rest of the Golden Deer house were out practicing combat drills, leaving only herself, Hilda, Marianne and Leonie in the room. None of the others were nearby, so Lysithea figured she could get away with discreetly casting her spell...
Lysithea had expected it to be just a little light. Something small enough for her to cast without notice. But instead, a blinding flare of light emanated from her palm, engulfing the entire room. Forced to cover her eyes with her arm, she had to wait for the light to fade.
As soon as she was able, Lysithea looked down at herself, desperate to see if she was any taller. She saw no evidence of such, the same small body she was beyond sick of seeing. If anything, she looked to be a little smaller than before. And getting smaller by the second...
"Oh no!"
With a gasp, Lysithea glanced around. Everything around her looked to be larger than before, magnifying just as she had appeared to be getting smaller. She would have thought it an illusion, were it not for the fact she could somehow feel it. That, and the cries she heard from around the room.
"Hey, what's going on?"
"Huh? Is that bookcase taller than before?"
"By the goddess..."
Lysithea turned, but just caught the top of Leonie's head before she sank out of sight.
"No! No, no, no..."
Grunting with exertion, Lysithea stood. It was very strange, to be standing atop her chair with ample room, but she had become small enough that it was more than possible. She peered up at her desk, but was already too small to see the tome and her notes. It seemed she had no way to reverse this.
I was trying to make myself a few inches bigger... She thought amidst the panic. Does that mean... I'll only be a few inches tall?
Eventually, her shrinking seemed to stop. But now she was stranded atop her chair, too high up for her to climb down. A twist of fate had shrunk her down to a tiny size. She felt she had no other choice but to wait for help to come...
"Lysithea! Hey, down here!"
Some time later, Lysithea heard Hilda's voice. She ventured to the edge of her chair and peered down. Her tiny pink-haired classmate did not look terribly pleased, neither did the similarly small Leonie beside her. Marianne stood behind them, praying to the goddess to save them from their little predicament.
"Did you do this?" Leonie asked irately. "Was this one of your spells that made us teeny tiny?"
"I-I don't know!" Lysithea stuttered in fear, backing away. As Leonie waved her little fist, she was glad to be out of reach of her classmates.
They're all the way down there! Lysithea thought. Huh. I guess I ended up looking down at them for once...
