Did you know that the moon in Majora's mask....and other Zelda game ideas were borrowed from the Link to the past comic by Shotaro Ishinomori???
Check out this site, it features the comic.
[link]
One of the chapters (Chapter 6: A FOOL IN THE SHAPE OF A TREE) contains the dark moon which was the base idea for the Majora's moon.

It's a brillaint piece of art, and the moon looks extremely creepy. Puts a new meanings to the "man in the moon" thing. I would never be able to look up into the night sky with that moon up there. Great job! Looks great! ^_^
Luckily the four giants were able to protect Clock Town by appearing at the four compass points to catch the moon and throw it back into the sky. ^_^
Say, I'm trying to learn a little more about Majora's Mask. Could'ya enlighten me, please? Ya see, I only know about Majora's Mask from what I've read from a few of my trophies in Super Smash Bros. Melee. Heh.
Here's what I know so far:
While transporting Majora's Mask, Link is attacked by the Skull Kid. The Skull Kid steals the mask and puts it on, getting possessed by it. Link gives chase and comes to a town called Clock Town. In Clock Town, every so often, the moon (I think I heard it has a face because it's the moon spirit, or something) crashes into Clock Town, killing and destroying everything. The only structure that ever remains after the devastation is the clock tower, hence the name of Clock Town. Since there's nothing they can do to stop it, the people of Clock Town are celebrating the end of the world.
During the game, you're given a time limit to when the world will end, and you have to beat the game in that time limit. Though I think there's a song you can play to turn back time a bit, but I'm pretty sure it's severely limited, or something. Along the way, Link needs to use masks (was it masks?) to transform into various species. Somewhere along the way (how and where I have no clue) Link is able to summon four giants, who represents swamp, valley... uhh... I forget the other two. I think Link says "Swamp, valley, (blank), and (blank). The four who are there." to summon them. They come from the four compass points to catch the moon before it crashes into Clock Town, throwing it back into the sky. I believe the final battle with Skull Kid takes place inside the moon, and at one point you have to face Majora's Mask itself, which has sprouted arms and legs that you need to hack at with your sword to stun it (or somethin'). Based on what I can gather from Super Smash Bros. Melee, the Four Giants return every time to catch and throw back the moon every time it tries to crash into Clock Town.
By the way, is the player ever given an explanation as to why the moon keeps crashing into the earth, and why it only affects Clock Town?
Is any of that true? Is any of that false? Anythin' else I should know about Majora's Mask? Thanks in advance! ^_^

Thanks I am glad you like it.
As far as my understanding goes this is the plot of Majora's Mask. Link after the events of Ocarina of Time goes in search of a friend. It's never revealed exactly who. I originally thought it was a Skull Kid we 'met' in the first game however recently I read that some people think Link was in search of Navi, the fairy who left him at the end of OoT. Whatever the case, link was riding on his horse, Epona, though the forst when he came upon a Skull Kid who was wearing a mask, later to be known as Majora's Mask. He has two faires with him. They frighten Epona and Link falls off and is rendered unconsious. When he comes to he finds that the Skull kid has taken his Ocarina. Epona has run away so Link persues the Skull Kid on foot. He follows him only to fall into a large hole, at the bottom of which Skull Kid uses the power of the Majora's Mask to turn Link into a Deku Shrub. One of the fairy's starts tormenting Link by flying at him very quickly and fails to realise that Skull kid and her brother fairy have left. Inorder to catch up with them she aids Link to get out. Link eventually emerges inside the central clock tower of Clock Town. Here he meets the Mask Shop sales person from Ocarina of Time. He recognises that Link is cursed and offers to help. He tells Link that a mask of his which contains a terrible ancient evil has been stolen from him and if Link recovers it for him he will help him return him to his true form. Link sets out into Clock town and sets about trying to recover the mask. It becomes apparent that there is a festival in preperation, but there is a concern amongst the towns folk that the moon may fall and destroy the town. Just for Clarification the moon, so far as I know, has never crashed into Clock Town before. Link eventually catches up with Skull Kid on the 3rd day on the top of the Clock Tower (which sort of transforms at a certain hour for the festival), moments before the moon crashes into the town. It seems the Majora's Mask is the causing of the moon to coliding with the planet. The fairy that is with Link is rejected by Skull Kid and thus joins with Link more permenently to stop Skull Kid. Link, still in Deku Shrub form uses a bubble to knock the Ocarina of time out of Skull Kids hand. When he recovers it he recieves a flash back of the Princess Zelda teaching him the Song of Time. Link plays the song and is transported back 3 days in the past. The Mask salesman teaches Link the song of Healing which allows link to return to his human form. However Link retains the power to transform into a Deku Shrub by puting on a mask. He sets off to the swamp... not sure why. But evil has invaded all the surrounding locations. Once Link defeats a temple he gains a new song from an unseen creature. Which turn out to be the giants. Along the way Link picks up masks that will transform him into a Goron and a Zora. Link can also collect a large number of other masks which have different effects and uses such as increasing his speed or size, disguising him from others, and even a weapon. Also very important in Majora's Mask is the wide cast of characters that inhabit Clock Town and the surrounding area. Almost everyone of them has their own plotline in which Link can influence their lives, some of which intertwine such as two lovers who have been seperated by a curse. The game is brilliantly designed and is a must play for any Zelda fan. It is also possible to slow down the flow of time by playing the the Song of Time backwards (or something like that) to provide you with extra time if you need it. As for the Four Giants, it is told by an old woman who thinks you are her son. She tells you the story but you need the staying awake mask to hear all of it. For memory the Four Giants may have created the world of Termina or whatever. I am not certain. They used to be friends with Skull Kid but they were forced to part so each of them could look after the four regions surrounding Clock town. it's been a while cince I have played it but I think thats how the story goes. I am probably not the best source on it. I suggest you check out the wikipedia entry here [link] Actually that's a really good site to read up about most things. Of course the best way to find out about tLoZ:MM is to get a copy of it and play through it. You might be able to find the Zelda Gamecube collectors disc on ebay or you can get a Wii and eventually download it on the virtual console. Buy a N64 and the game or see if anyone you know has it so you can borrow it... or maybe it rent it. It beats the hell out of just reading about it, I assure you.

Hmm... Thank you for your explanation! I greatly appreciate it! Seriously, thank you!
I'll have to look into this game... It sounds quite intriguing. Sadly, I never finished Ocarina of Time. I got stuck at the beginning of Ganondorf's lava castle place. Reading about the Ganondorf boss battle in my strategy guide only discouraged me from playing further, as the guide made it seem near impossible with the platforms being destoryed by Ganon's earthquake punch. Plus, no Navi means no auto-aim. That's a problem because the manual aiming SUCKS in OoT. T_T

Maybe one day I'll get inspired by something to play it again. That's what recently happened with Skies of Arcadia: Legends...

Excellent work! With that talent, I'll bet you'd be able to create amazing things from that game! Why not make a character? Like Link or Oni Link?

yeah its my favourite too, the artistic design is some of the weirdest but best I have seen in any game (a green field with a tree inside the moon, wtf? lol) and the interaction with the people of clock town was so awesome, its such a pitty that many people decided to over look it when they heard the term 'time limit.'
