Would you like to go scream in the woods with me one day? It’s fun, free, therapeutic, and the trees enjoy talking to each other about us afterwards

That could be practically around the corner near where I live (one of the few hilly and foresty places in an otherwise notoriously flat and grassy Netherlands). Do you have wild pigs there? I love wild pigs!

Wow! Cool that you have a forest hills nearby!

Yes, wild boars, wolves, foxes, hares lives here.
But first of all, it is a home for birds. People often come just for listening birds' singing.

Hmm, not sure if I'm that sensitive to bird song myself. I tend to notice the cries of woodpeckers mostly. I do love to hear the owls hoot in late autumn when it's dark! VeryΒ Edgar Allen Poe We do have a very special bird here though, called a nighthawk or nightjar (ΠΊΠΎΠ·ΠΎΠ΄ΠΎΠΉ). They only come out at nightfall and they like to play tricks with us humans, displaying fearless curiosity. I've had one flying right in front of my bicycle several times, as if escorting me along the cycle track. And once I had one hovering in front of my face like a kestrel, at 1.5m from my eyes, just checking me out while I was sitting on a bench. They also make all sort of crazy noises, the first time I noticed them I thought they were tree frogs!

Yes, I do know the Nightjar bird. Kinda scary sometimes
Owls - oh yes, nice creatures! Hard to see in wild, but when you can - amazing. Silent owl flight - such a miracle to see... Needs a lot of patience

Last year during a heatwave the neighbors were keeping me awake until 4 AM, so at some point I decided to pack a sleeping bag and go sleep in the woods. The additional bonus was that the place where I was planning to sleep cools down really fast at night (I'm not a big fan of warm weather). I found myself a nice spot in the form of a gully near the top of a hillock, which fitted exactly one person of my size. If I lifted my head I could see everything around me, and when I dropped it again nobody could see me. Perfect!

One evening I was lying on my back with my eyes closed, when I heard the squeaking sound of a bat to the left of me. I opened my eyes and turned my head and there was this owl that came soaring straight towards me, barely 3m above the ground, holding its stretched out wings completely still. It was being chased by a tiny bat which was probably "escorting" it out of its territory. A bat with an attitude! You're right, that was indeed an awesome sight. Like nothing I've ever seen before.

It is! Thank you!
Cons is: half a day on foot via very complex route to achieve this hills and river (next time I will do some photos of the river).

What I love this lands for is that there's NO people in 10 mile radius
