That's great! I'd been thinking of using a piece of local sugar maple, as I think it would be rewarding to harvest and dry the wood from my own land and turn it into something nice.

Nice! You want to make a pipe? I have made few pipes made of european maple, and they smoke well! I don't know why it's not frequently used for pipes.

I'd like to make more, yes! I did do this one ( fav.me/d891jqr ) earlier this year. That was Greek briarwood, I believe. But, since this nice maple is around it seems like a nice opportunity, ideally if I can find and use a burl, as it would have a more interesting (and likely easier to work with) grain than a straight piece. Even better could be tiger maple, though only one in around 15 sugar maples will have that crazy grain.
