He wanted to trust him, he really wanted to. They both loved her, the little girl, the sister, the one they tried to protect. And after all, they both shared so much...he was sure the other one would understand him, no matter what might happen, no matter what he had to do in order to protect what he loved the most.

Ramin and Lucien are quite a fascinating "couple" and while the idea of symmetrie is applied to the whole Black Realm/White Empire I think it's the strongest between these two boys.
Lucien is loved by his mother, despised by his father.
Ramin is loved by his father, despised by his mother.
While Lucien has a strong bond to his older sister Cheryl, Ramin gets constantly humiliated by Hermia.
Lucien is unable to fulfill his task, embittered and frustrated, while Ramin seems to be perfect, but is bored by everything he does and seeks for more.

In the end however it all comes down to two little, unhappy boys who have to carry more on their shoulders than they can really bear.
They are like a mirrored version of the other.

Sadly I'm not sure if their friendship might last (or ever start) and who betrays whom in the end.
