Description I saw Ponyo with my mom yesterday. It was a tiny theater, and the only other person there was a guy with a cast who had to hobble in on crutches. For some reason the theater is usually pretty empty whenever I see movies, so I never get to gauge audience reaction, which is a shame.

I saw the subtitled version (Dutch subtitles), and I'm glad because I got to hear the Japanese song at the end instead of the rock-style English version. I wish I could find the song at the beginning to listen to--the intro was really nice.

The movie was... how to describe it? It was engaging throughout, but not because there was any semblance of a plot. I just wanted to keep watching to see what the characters would do next, because all the details and interactions seemed so real and adorable. I kept watching every little motion any of the characters made, because all the details were so right and it was fun to pay attention to little motions that normally get overlooked. The kids' characterization was great, as Miyazaki's kids always are; I love watching children in his films because they're always so genuine and adorable. It all felt very near and slice-of-life, except there was a transforming goldfish and all sorts of other randomly wacky stuff.

The artwork was beautiful in its simplicity, and all the scenes with water were gorgeous. Watching the water was my favorite part of the movie. Gah, I want water-fish that I can run on, too!

This movie doesn't unseat Totoro as my favorite Ghibli film, but it was pretty cute and enjoyable all the same.

Anyway, so I drew fanart. About time I drew some Ghibli fanart.

The car in this picture is going to swerve just in time to avoid flying off the cliff. Nevertheless, Lisa is a terrible driver. Every time she got in that car, I was mentally screaming at her to slow down. Especially during the rain.

I saw Ponyo for4 month ago and some weeks after that I went to "Ghibli Museum" in Tokyo - that was an awesome story itself. I really can't believe I travel to Tokyo I don't even have a good economy,, well now we know why

To not leave the main subject, your picture are really awesome, so playful but skillful drawn, I love it The fish/waves are lively and you really make the wind in the tree look really good

I absolutely love how you did the water fishes!!! They look very fluid, like they were alive!!!

And I didn't know that Ponyo existed (I though it was Heidi xD), but as you and everybody else says, it looks like a great movie!! I'll see it if it comes here to Mexico.

Thank you! I'm really glad you like how they came out; they were the most fun to draw.

Yeah, it's really cute, I hope you get a chance to see it. ^^

Just...awesome. Captures the whole chaos of the scene, plus Ponyo's excitable innocence. Really awesome.

Dangit, now the song's stuck in my head! D:

Totally captured the feel of that scene! And yes, I was totally freaking out every time that woman got into the car. What was WRONG with her?? O_O

But yeah, those waterfish are lovely!

Thanks, that's what I was going for! And yeah, it was sorta maddening to watch. Actually, Lisa seemed a bit irresponsible in a few parts of the film (like when she left the two kids alone during a flood?); watching her was frustrating to me at certain parts.

Yeah, it was a really neat way to animate water. x3

*incoherent babbling* YOU SAW PONYO TOO?!??!!?

That movie was amazing. I agree, the sheer genuineness of the characters, especially the kids, was one of my favorite points of the movie (and of all of Miyazaki's films, really). Joe Hisaishi did another stellar job with the soundtrack, as well.

And you certainly did it justice with this picture! The water turned out great. This was actually one of my favorite parts of the film, it was so exuberant (and the scene right afterward, where Ponyo is clinging to Sousuke's head--classic).

Okay, if I type any more I'm liable to start raving about every little aspect of the film, so I'll just leave you with this: Lisa drives a lot like my mom. xD

YES I DID!!11

Yeah, Miyazaki is great with kid characters. It's the main reason I enjoy his films so much--they bring back that sense of innocent magic that children have. I'd love to get my hands on the soundtrack, too.

And thanks! I'm glad you think the water came out well; I enjoyed drawing it. This was one of my favorite scenes too! There was just so much life in the action, and you were rooting for Ponyo as she finally got her freedom. And yeah, Ponyo and Sousuke's antics were all amusing to watch.

Heh, it's no problem, raving about little aspects is fun. XD And wow, haha. When I visited Cyprus with my class, most of the people there drove kinda like that. I was a little nervous whenever I got in the car with my host family. XD

Haha, thanks. I'm glad you think so. The movie is fun and cute, although kinda purposeless and random as far as plot goes. ...But it's really cute and fun. XD

Yeah, Miyazaki's movies are always worth seeing. It's the second Miyazaki I've seen in a theater, but the first one almost didn't count because I was too young to understand Princess Mononoke.

And thanks so much!

I really need to go back and watch all of Miyazaki's movies again, because it's been a while since I saw any of them. The problem is that I know if I see them, I'll want to draw fanart and thus lose all productivity for the next few days.
