Description Arlington national cemetery is the second most touching and disturbing places on Earth I've ever been to. (The first one is Mamaev Kurgan in Volgograd, former Stalingrad). I would advice every politician, who wants to start a new war, to visit these places and walk around these endless rows and read all the names of fallen heroes.

I was there both last year for my 8th grade trip. Me, and a few other people were given permission to look through the cemetery for family members, and I found my great grandfather's grave. He was in a B-17 Flying Fortress in world war 2. When a friend saw the name 'Prior', (last name of a part of my family), I went over and it was him. That was the first time I'd cried in 9 years. I didn't get a picture of the tombstone, (phone was dead) but if I did have a pic, it would be on here already. This is definitely going in my faves.

Been there and I agree. I think this captures the scale nicely, even though it's not a long shot...with this cropping, the gravestones could be endless.

I just went there a few days ago.
The gravestones went on and on, seemingly without an end, as far as the eye could see; a pattern of white slabs spread across sloping greens. I thought about how each marker represented an individual human being, sometimes two. They had their own personalities, their own moral values, their own character traits that set them apart from all the other faces in the crowd.
I thought about how many of them there were...and all of a sudden I felt very humbled, and was compelled by my conscience to take off my hat as a small gesture of respect.
In the back of my head, Taps was playing.

They are heroes for sure, but not of Stalingrad. There were no Americans fighting there. Only Russians and Germans died there, in the probably bloodiest battle in the human history. But they are all buried not in Arlington cemetery but in mass unmarked graves. Thanks for your comment!

That's true, and it is sad that this fact is not quite well known in the West.
