Description 28x22 Inches Oil on Canvas Neutral underpainting with 8 layers of transparent color... Definitively a chore but the final effect is like looking through a stained glass window...simply wonderful technique.

Awww, Cynda...glazing over a neutral underpainting takes so much time...it is like painting the same painting 7 or 8 times. Although I must say that I absolutely love the finished painting. I do have something in mind to tell the truth...I just have to work up to it. I really did mean it when I said how glad I am that I found you and your amazing work. So, are you a right or left coast? I am up here in Portland, Oregon where it is always dark. I think I should have stayed in Los Angeles.
If you have time Cynda, I would like to know more about you and your art. Perhaps you could write a note (if you aren't too busy).
Well, I hope to hear from you Cynda...it's off to sleep for me.

Good-night,
Stuart

hi stuart, i'm from LA too. But have lived elsewhere since i left 14 years ago. Currently on the west coast in a little town 2.5 hours north of San Francisco called Willits. Painting my brains out, have been for over 30 years now...Re glazing... painting ain't for woosies...DO IT, that thing you have in mind. At 56 my motto is; If not now, When?????? If i think it, i try to do it...The little niggling thing that i'm thinking about doing is painting on velvet then folding the results into apothecary jars, ordered a few jars to experiment with, and (of course) still working the women and water series, but now alternating the big oil paintings with small acrylic studies; each is a nice relief from the other. Shit; too many paintings to do, to little time!!! Rock on, cynda Valle

I didn't realize that you took a photo of the painting

But still you are a far better photographer than I am - and a better painter than I am.

ANTI-WARHOL In reply to Tharjana [2011-08-28 19:02:11 +0000 UTC]

Better is a relative word, Tharjana. And by the way, Tharjana, is that your real name because I find it to be exotic and beautiful.
Never base the quality of your work by comparing it with someone else. The only thing that really matters is, did you have fun while working on your piece and did you learn something new while in the process of creating your work.
Enough lecturing! hope to hear from you soon!

Tharjana In reply to ANTI-WARHOL [2011-08-28 19:08:35 +0000 UTC]

No, Tharjana is not my real name. I began using it in different browser games and keep using it for everything where I have to register.
And yes, everything you say is right. Most of the time I do have fun drawing and I learn something. But by comparing with others one can also learn. But enough objections!

Well said
Now, as much as I love the name Tharjana is there any chance you would care to impart your reeel name to me? You can whisper it in my ear and if you don't want me to use it I won't. However, it is totally up to you how much you want to trust me

Is this a new technique? The effect is very nice, very colorful painting.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ANTI-WARHOL In reply to CarolynYM [2011-07-24 22:36:35 +0000 UTC]

It relies on a opaque neutral underpainting and 7 or 8 layers of pure transparent color (each layer having to dry before applying the next). VERY time consuming...the entire painting took 6 months including drying time but it was worth it! I am glad that you like it and that you noticed the change in technique
Thank you, Carolyn!

Thanks for the explanation. Patience is required for this technique. lol

ANTI-WARHOL In reply to CarolynYM [2011-07-25 04:35:43 +0000 UTC]

If you want a longer, more technical explanation I would be happy to...if you really want to learn how...It's not for the faint of heart because of the time involved but oh so worth it when it is finished. I used the same technique on 'First Love', the still life with two cherries in my gallery.
But thanks, Carolyn for all your kind and thoughtful words.

I'm a dinosaur from the old school - oil and turpentine! My son has been trying to get me to use photoshop and other computer programs for art and it's hopeless - too old and too lazy to learn new things!! But I enjoy hearing and seeing others use new techniques. I did see the similarities between First Love, Banquet, and Banquet Detail. It's a beautiful look.

I'm with you...you couldn't get me near photoslop and the rest of that @#%! There is nothing like the feel of paint flowing off the end of a paintbrush and onto a canvas or piece of Masonite! I guess that just makes us 'old school'!
