I recently made a little list in my journal on things I need to improve with my art.In that list I mentioned I need to work more on realistic drawing and using references so I dug up a photo of a five years young me. [link]
I'm afraid it doesn't anything like the photo but at least it looks human
That's a start, right? 
I guess it's my own fault for never ever using references in the past. I can start out seriously looking at the photo but in the end I always continue solo in my head... More practice is needed O_<;

It looks absolutely adorable! You were a cute kid. It's pretty dam good, only slightly, ever so slightly off the marker. I envy you - I draw too much off real life instead of drawing from my imagination.

Anne, this looks BETTER than the photo. I"m glad you trimmed the bangs and shortened the smile. It looks calming and happy to me. You did a wonderful job. Would like to see more like this in the future.
