Lys is a Yol/MTT mix, a product of a marriage between Cerise, a Yol, and Halothane, an MTT. Lys has an older half-brother, Mari (8 years her senior), who is Hal's son from a previous relationship. Hal and Cerise separated when Lys was 12, but the divorce didn't create a rift in the family and they all still get along very well. Lys visits Hal often, but stays with her mother most of the time. Lys and Mari have a very close relationship, or at least they did until Mari kinda dropped off the map entirely. Lys's mom is from France, so thanks to her Lys is fluent in French, although she doesn't have much need for it.

Cerise works as a teacher in the Silver Arches Lyceum in the Junction City Reserve, and thanks to her influence Lys was included in the integration program that allows a handful of MTTs and Yol to study in schools inside the Reserve. Lys is not terribly sociable, however, and ended up only making friends with Naomi Kato in the school. They are both somewhat outsiders, and so mainly only hang around each other in school. Lys and Naomi have a lot in common, but don't get to spend as much time together as they'd like, as Lys is only allowed to be inside the reserve for a limited time each day.

Lys is a rather typical teenager, all full of snark and sarcasm, but she has a good relationship with both of her parents and isn't really a troublemaker. While her looks and style would suggest otherwise, she's actually a pretty quiet bookworm and works hard to keep her grades up. She is a computer and technology enthusiast and enjoys tinkering with all sorts of gadgets and building stuff. She's recently met Cryptic, a... let's say expert on technology, who has sort of taken her under her wing and Lys has become her protege in all things technology.
