Description Here's a little series I took of my cat, Molly, today with my new Canon G9 Camera.

Comes with a warning.. These pics may be boring to some people, but to others, they will possibly call for a big Awww! (I'm a bit pee'd off that I clipped her right ear though, but she WAS moving around rather a lot and I had to be quick!)

More than anything, I'm thrilled with the results I'm getting so far with the birthday pressie I got from my hubby! (These are just set to Fine on a 32MB card. When I get my 2GB card then I can start using Super-fine and RAW!)

Great choice of camera!!! That G9 is a pocket rocket. I still have my G6 from +-3 years ago and my husband has a G7 that is great.

Such a beautiful kitty

What camera do you use for all your cat photography?

I'm so far finding that the G9 is best for close-ups! I took it out this afternoon, but have to admit that one of the reason for rather flat looking shots was probably the flat lighting conditions! The sun was out, but there was no atmosphere, if you know what I mean... I'd best not judge it on that experience, but I did find there was a vast difference between what I could see through its eye-viewer and the 3" LCD screen! About 30% at the top of the image is added with the eye-viewer, so that what look right in it comes out waaay down low in the final mode! I was not happy with that!

I use dSLR's - I have two Nikons, the D70s and D80. The final image is slightly larger than what you see in the viewfinder, but a small fraction only.

Sound very good! Well today, we took my little "darling" back to the shop, complete with four test pictures showing the discrepancy, and he immediately said that wasn't acceptable. So... Richard has come home with a Canon EOS 400D body for me to use with the various lenses we already have for the 350D he uses. He suggested the new one for me because it has an excellently large screen too, whereas the 350D only has a small one that can be used for preview only. Well, ok, I shall miss my little one very much as it fitted neatly in my handbag and would have made a good backup camera, but this will be far more along the lines of what I was used to, allbeit much heavier.

LOL! I'm not at all known on dA for my feats in photography - in fact my watchers don't expect it of me.. If I decide to show off my photos, I might open a different account for it. Chances are I'll just put them on my own website though.

I answered that poll with a different response Yes I know, but that's because it currently makes up the bulk of your gallery, perhaps? I don't know... but the more diversion, the better

Well, I know there will be more cat pictures coming up - can't resist! I'll play it by ear...

What's your opinion of HDRi? I was fiddling with the idea last night on one of the pictures of a local country manor, and I became quite unsure as to whether or not this just isn't another form of filtering photography... I'd be interested to know your thoughts?

I'm finding it sooo exciting! I borrowed a bigger card from a friend today, but the quality of the pictures isn't as good! Its a phone card that was converted, but I badly wanted to take a whole lot more pictures while the weather is lasting!

Certainly for its size and lightness/convenience for me to use, it has an extraordinarily high spec, and we got it £100 cheaper than its recommended price.

Thank you - I was very closely zoomed in (these pics aren't just part of larger ones) and so yes, its impossible to be on the spot when they make these sudden movements. Maybe when I've got more used to the camera I will get the hang of it!

AnnaKirsten In reply to Astarlen [2008-02-11 11:44:29 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I agree - I can definitely feel the potential, it just means I need to use that camera every day, so that I get thoroughly used to every aspect of it. Sometimes my mind just goes blank, and I wanna just stick with Auto, shoot away and keep the best! I've really got to make sure I don't keep doing that!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Astarlen In reply to AnnaKirsten [2008-02-11 18:17:02 +0000 UTC]

yup, does get tempting... lol... sometimes i just get tired of using my brain and let the camera use its computer-brain.... but then i feel bad. when i had my junky camera it was one thing, but now that i have a nice one, i rarely ever put shots on dA that i took in auto mode. feels like cheating somehow...

OMG, how totally adorable she is - how endearing - I would love Baxter to do that! Although he loves to be thrown over our right shoulder and nestle against us like that - he sure can get heavy after a while though!
Have you noticed Anna that artistic folks are predominantly cat-lovers?

AnnaKirsten In reply to kayandjay100 [2008-02-10 21:54:04 +0000 UTC]

Certainly the artists I have got to know are definitely cat lovers, but that could be because you and I both love them, and so we draw those people to us.. Mind you, they are a perfect piece of artwork in themselves, I think! That look is the one she gives me when she's saying she'd like to come and have a cuddle into my neck!

kayandjay100 In reply to AnnaKirsten [2008-02-11 07:29:15 +0000 UTC]

Awww ... she's so cute!!!
And yes, cats are a perfected species with little variety except for size and colouring. I read that from the era of sabre-toothed tigers to modern times, cats have changed very little, and only to adapt to their various environments.
"If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat." - Mark Twain
It's not that I don't like dogs as such, I really do like other people's dogs!!! Coco

AnnaKirsten In reply to kayandjay100 [2008-02-11 11:02:08 +0000 UTC]

I used to prefer dogs over cats - was actually brought up in an environment that hated cats period! So in my earlier years, I was used to having Alsatians (German Shepherd ones) and I just totally adored one. Now-a-days I really don't want a male dog sniffing my crotch, and neither do I want dogs in general jumping up on my clothing, or licking my face - or anywhere come to that. However, I would still have an Alsatian puppy if I had the choice - which I don't because I don't have the energy it takes to exercise one!

Mark Twain was quite right IMO!!

I think I'd rather become one of those "cat ladies" Anna, than joining the "backyard bucket brigade" and having to religiously do daily "walkies" with the dog - rain or shine! Baxter doesn't even like to soil his own property, but mysteriously disappears somewhere adjacent to our property and returns a few minutes later to do a thorough "grooming" of himself! What a smartie! Coco

AnnaKirsten In reply to kayandjay100 [2008-02-11 11:52:07 +0000 UTC]

LOL! Ours are fenced into our own property in such a way they can't actually go to any "next doors" so they have to use our garden; Richard is very good and goes out there to de-turd it every other day! It keeps our neighbours happy (one lot hate cats with a vengeance) and it gives us peace of mind too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kayandjay100 In reply to AnnaKirsten [2008-02-11 12:21:56 +0000 UTC]

! Considering Richard (your husband?) doesn't like cats, I think he must be a wonderful person to do the "de-turding" of your garden! It's a shame your neighbours hate cats - ours are pretty good and have never complained about Baxter soiling their properties, so I guess he is doing the jobs in very discreet and little-used spaces there! His wee-spot is under our lemon tree right up the back - and let me tell you, those lemons are unbelievably large and healthy!!! !

AnnaKirsten In reply to kayandjay100 [2008-02-11 12:46:33 +0000 UTC]

Ohh Richard (yes he's my husband) ADORES cats! It was my father and his family who hated them! Murry is very much Richard's cat, whilst Molly is mummy's little girl!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kayandjay100 In reply to AnnaKirsten [2008-02-11 13:00:10 +0000 UTC]

Ah, of course, I remember now - Murry likes to ride around on Richard's shoulder - if I'm correct? Your kitties sound like wonderful company and very sweet pets. Now that old Reddi has passed away, we are considering getting two Ocicat kittens - littermates. We have researched the breed which is a fairly new one. These cats are spotted like cheetahs and grow to be quite large, like Maine Coons, but have short fur. Unfortunately, they are seriously expensive and Baxter could hate them, so we need to think about it a little longer. I live with my grown son Jack, and we both work, so the kittens would effectively be left on their own with Baxter and we're not quite sure how he'd take them - that's why we thought two of them, so they could stand up and unite against any territorial bullying. I'll definitely let you know if we go ahead with the kittens. Coco

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnnaKirsten In reply to kayandjay100 [2008-02-11 13:37:26 +0000 UTC]

Yes, that's correct!

That's one difficult decision to make! It will be a shock for Baxter, not just one but two! All you can do is try I guess, but would the breeder take them back if it didn't work out?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kayandjay100 In reply to AnnaKirsten [2008-02-11 13:47:32 +0000 UTC]

Yes Anna, there is a trial period of a few weeks and if it doesn't work out, the breeder will take them back - that seems to be part of the deal. Baxter needs a bit of shake-up anyway, he's becoming a little complacent, taking us for granted as his personal slaves! Coco

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnnaKirsten In reply to kayandjay100 [2008-02-11 20:30:19 +0000 UTC]

That's a good thing that they allow a trial period. Yes, cats DO take us for granted! They really are the ones who choose us, not the other way round, lol!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kayandjay100 In reply to AnnaKirsten [2008-02-12 02:57:43 +0000 UTC]

Yes, we initially choose them as kittens but as they grow, those roles reverse very quickly, don't they?!
