Description I love you, from the bottom of my toolbox

So today was the opening evening for mine and 6 other student's exhibition in college. Its part of the university building, but its open to the public, and foundation students don't often exhibit so it was kind of a big deal, without being a massive one.

I called this exhibit 8 because there were 7 of us, so 7 exhibits, but the last piece was outside of the room, so people asked me if I was an exhibit, part of the gallery.

Thats all the stuff that littered the bottom of my toolbox.

I think the keys glued to your temple really sell this. XD A little touch of practicality that anyone can relate to, just stuck nonchalantly by your (very piercing) eyes. Fantastic!

I'M GLAD YOU THINK SO! I got my friend in the studio to help me out with the face, so credit goes to her, I just guessed what would look okay and she adjusted accordingly.

I think its quite weird because you can see how black the circles around my eyes are, perhaps a little more truthful image than usual, as its normally covered up with make up.

More sleep for this bunny me thinks

To be honest, I think the shadows under your eyes really add to the piece, from a purely color-based perspective: You have a repeating theme of dull lilac + navy blue + white in the gems and buttons, and that's repeated in the shadows + iris + white of your eyes - although it's not something I think I would have been able to specifically pinpoint had you not mentioned it. Especially since the lilac gems steal most of one's attention for that color.

But I do empathize - I've had huge dark circles around my eyes since I was about five years old. I've kind of grown in to them, but a little bit of insomnia and TA DAA there they are.

Yes. No, in all honesty, I adore analyzing stuff like that, especially if it wasn't intended in the first place - it's like stretching your art sense to see in a new way, so that the next time you make a piece you find yourself implementing those things without realizing it.

I also tutor art to a 12 year old, which is a little less like stretching and a little more like boot camp. You never realise how much there is to a concept until you have to teach it.

I also like to talk a lot.

People don't talk enough in the world. I mean they made noise, but actually communication?

Analysis is always fun - sometimes its nice to leave 0 info for the person to make their own opinions. My flatmate and I had a mini exhibition the other week and she had no sign up at all for her work, because she didn't want to dictate what it meant to people. I could see where she was coming from but it didn't stop groups of people asking me what it was about.

That sounds like tough work, my brother is 12 and he's more interested in shooting people in the head, lol. But sometimes he does come out with some very witty comments and it makes me realise how grown up he is, and how I remember being that age and being a conscious human, not a child.

I dislike the idea that art has to be about something, myself - at least anything explainable. I rarely try to make art that represents a particular thing, but I think everybody has some wordless sense of intent or meaning while they're creating. I do, however, ADORE making art that really looks significant or representational, because I'm an imp and enjoy seeing how much people read into things that they find striking. It's a sneaky way of getting people not only to think, but to feel compelled to show you how they think.

It is pretty tough being a teacher (of any sort, I'd wager), but my student is awesome. He's a Talented Nerd Extraordinaire (LARPing, drawing, painting, writing, internet-savvy, fantasy and sci-fi obsessed, critical thinker, revolutionary), and will probably take over the world some day. He's the best inspiration I could possibly ask for as an artist, because he absorbs everything like a sponge and I'm forced to constantly research and expand in order to keep up.

I agree, haha, as you know I do a lot of work around my state of mind and some of my Fine Art tutors go N U T S over it, literally, coming out with all sorts of interpretations. Its great.

He sounds like a real inspiration, what a lucky find
