They seem peaceful folk, until they become the hideous creatures we know today

Not sure if all elves in Elder Scrolls have large lifespans like those two Falmer from Dawnguard or if it is exclusive to just the Falmer. But from what they said the have been around for thousands of years, maybe millions and only look middle aged. When I first met uncorrupted Falmer I was amazed they were still alive.

From what I know, mer can live a thousand years, even longer with the help of magic... Also, Vyrthur was a vampire, it would explain his long life.

At the risk of necroposting, let us not forget the Telvanni wizards, who had several millennia apiece under their belts.

Nothing is "inaccurate", when you dress people to the best of your knowledge.

You've done a great job so far.
Clothing fashion may have different styles in different cultures, but there is nothing wrong with making equivalents to mundane clothing (like street clothes).
I understand how you're going to react: to think of glorious Snow Elves doing something so mundane. ACK!!
Your style for Snow Elf clothing appears like a row of window drapes and fine robes. I suggest focusing that design to fit the Skyrim clothing.
As for the Armor and Weapons, you should follow the angles, curves, and style of Snow Elf architecture and armor.
What we've seen so far in-game is all that Bethesda established (well except for the Falmer Crown, for PC only). Nothing in fan-fiction design is official, really, so be flexible about their wear.
I know I talked too much, and you can comment fan/hate messages to me regarding my theories.
Then again, this is up to you to decide.

I would love to see more of the mer family in future installments...and also children of all races.

I was happy they added at least human children in Skyrim, but I really want to see the others, espacially mer and Khajit kids...

Wow, this is great. Now I wonder what kind of design process you're going to try with the Sea Elves.

Well you can look at their subterranean descendants all day, can't you? Neat idea, reconstructing the Snow Elves.
