Description
For my entry I decided to have Kubo fending off something we all experience and is a key theme of the movie: Grief. I thought it unfitting to portray Kubo striking down a personification of grief, because that isn't how grief is truly conquered, In Kubo and The Two Strings, Kubo knows that not all enemies are defeated with brute force. And the more I thought about it the more gentle this movie really is. I wanted to show that gentleness and warmth, but also maintain the bittersweet nature of acceptance. After I finished this piece I noticed that the Tendrils around the edges remind me of the Garden of Eyes. Adding another layer to the meaning of this piece, the eyes show you what you want, what is secret. They seduce you like a siren's song. And in grieving we desire nothing more than to feel the warm embrace of our deceased loved ones once again.
