Previously..

It was a pleasant afternoon in the Union City park. Not too crowded, without many bundles of people nor pokemon today. So luckily on this fine sunny day, it was the perfect time to train the pokemon for the upcoming visit to their first gym.

Once the hours had passed after a fulfilling day of successful training, Angel sat down with her legs shaped into a comfortable pretzel under one of the trees at the park. In the middle of opening up her sketchbook to drag a pen across and begin some daily sketching.. midway, she paused. At the corner of her eye she catches a glimpse of a giant shadow looming over the park, and soon observing it disappear off somewhere.. witnessing this a burst of curiosity flew over her thinking that this mysterious shadow could have potentially landed somewhere close. Shutting the sketchbook, she turns her head to glimpse around the tree.

Upon great discovery from taking a look, it turned out Jenny had the same idea in coming to the park today! Accompanied by Sweetheart, Tutu and Eldritch. Shifting her eyes to him, it was pretty obvious by now who was the one to create the massive silhouette that almost covered the entire park.

Sam, who was in the tree, took a pause from tidying up her feathers once noticing Angel had wandered off somewhere from her sight. She descended from the branch, swooping down landing on her shoulder to join her and proceeded to continue her preening where she left off.

While preening her feathers she listens in to Angel and Jenny's conversation.
From what Sam could decipher after drowning out Eetchi’s bursting of friendly chirps toward the Delcatty, she found that it was the usual starter of conversations; How you've been? Oh you know, the usual–

But once she noticed the Toucannon from the corner of her eye, Sam immediately averted her attention away from the two girls to shift her eyes directly and pinpoint daggers at Tutu.
Promptly straightening up to puff out her chest feathers to look intimidating at him…However, Tutu just owlishly blinks at the small pikipek in return. Unsure of what she is doing…Was she trying to appear scary?

…didn’t really have much effect on Tutu because of their height difference.

Though their staring contest was cut short when the sound of something like a steam leaking from a pipe was from Angel, squealing loudly at the sight of Tutu once introduced by Jenny.
Sam steered her glare away from Tutu to see what the commotion was about now.

"Oh..my GOSH–Ah sorry for that..! But, uh, so this is the Tutu I've been hearing about!"
She says and stretches a wide smile across her face. Followed by a smaller squeal of excitement, both she and Jenny start to talk about Tutu.

Sam watches the way that Angel was just astonished by his appearance while Jenny was giving some interesting facts about Tutu. It filled Sam with worry at the sight and it didn't get any better once hearing the lines of them now talking about his evolution line. It got her remembering the bitter times of the past, becoming fixated with rising assumptions that were filled with unneeded dread.

‘…if Angel favored this Toucannon so much..will I be forced to evolve into one?!’

No…No.

Sam shook her head, in hopes to perish the thought.

She knew that deep down Angel would never force her to do such a thing. Knowing how much their friendship has grown overtime since the first day they’ve met…
however the forming thoughts lining with old, bitter memories lead to those assumptions growing stronger. And so did her unhinged behavior toward this greeting.

Now overhearing Angel was being given permission from Jenny to pet Tutu, soon started to approach rather too close to Tutu in Sam’s liking…

Slowly, Angel’s hand reached out to hopefully caress Tutu’s beak. Sam’s eyes flickered between Angel and Tutu. Then once Angel was in mid reach of petting him is when Sam had enough.
The Pikipek soon whipped out her wings, flapping them rapidly to create a slap effect, followed by an angered screech!

The two jolted back by the sudden outburst, especially Angel, with Sam being right there on her shoulder the noise was louder for her and made her jump.
Her teeth clenched by sudden reaction to the unexpected loud screech, squeezing her eyes shut.

"Argh..! Sam that hurt!” She snapped, whirling her head to face the Pikipek, “What's got into you, Bud?!"

In return she was greeted with an inflated, upset expression from the Pikipek. And soon dispatched from Angel's shoulder, flying off to find somewhere that was a decent enough distance from the group.
Luckily a tree caught her eye and soon settled upon one of the branches and gazed from afar. Still enduring her irritated behavior.

Angel flicked her gaze at Sam who flew off and back at everyone else as her face slumped with worry. She…had never done this before.
Except for those times Angel could recall remembering that was often a tactic Sam would do to get her attention for something important.

'…Something's wrong...'

Before leaving everyone she softly announced that she'll be back to retrieve Sam. Heading over to the tree where Sam was perched on a branch, she looked away from Angel who soon arrived.

At first, Angel couldn't quite grasp a good grip on any branch to start climbing. Her shoes, despite being good for climbing, made her slide down each time, it was a struggle.

"Ah, need help?" Jenny piped in with an offer, approaching Angel along with their pokemon that were curious to see what was happening.

“Oh..Yes please, actually! heheh..”

Once Accepting the offer, Jenny’s eyes began to glow while her pupils started to twirl at a quick pace.
Angel suddenly was covered in an outline of a faint blue violet hue, slowly being heaved up from the ground and onto a sturdy branch.

Angel climbed up the tree, one foot then the other until she could pull herself up to the branch that her friend Sam was perched on.

The Pikipek glanced at Angel and pouted slightly before looking away again. Carefully, she scoots closer to Sam a little bit.

"What's wrong, bud..? …Did I miss something..? You..never do that unless you tell me that something is up."

…

It was silent for a moment, between them. Angel couldn't stand for the lack of answers so she started to list guesses as to what may be bothering Sam, watching her closely for any sort of reaction.
She only got one when she finally asked..

"..Do you..not want to evolve?"

A response from Sam was noticed. Slowly, displaying a nod.

"Sam…"

For Sam's case that Angel wasn't fully aware of yet, she had some beef toward the Toucannon line.
Being picked on by her flock back then or even her own siblings for not evolving to grow stronger like them, to prove a point to them that she didn’t need to become bigger to put up a fight.

"..I'm not going to force you to evolve, if you don't want to. It should be your choice." Angel started after a moment of silence.

Those words brought Sam's attention. She peeks back at Angel after hearing those words being delivered out carefully.
Seeing this catching her attention, Angel continued.

"It…should be your choice, not mine. If you’re comfortable with who you are, being a Pikipek, then that's perfectly okay. I'll support you no matter what. You're my best friend, Sam.."

Sam soon felt as if a massive weight was lifted off of her, specifically one that’s been carried for so long burdened by the unease that connected to her past. longing for the weight of relief she herself craved for a while, finally washed over her.
Listening more to what Angel was saying helped her relax further knowing that now she would be safe and sound, no matter what choice she decides to make for herself she wouldn't be ridiculed by it.

“Mm, everything alright up there?” Jenny said, with a hum.
Both their eyes glance down at her before Angel answers while giving a small wave to the group.

“Yeah, we’re alright! Just a little heart-to-heart conversation, nothing to worry about!”

Her eyes avert back to Sam, giving a gentle smile of encouragement.

“Whenever you’re ready, you can join back with us. I can assure you that Tutu is a very sweet and gentle giant.”

Sam wasn't ready just yet, but watched Angel carefully climb back down the tree to join with the others and reassured them that everything was okay.

This did give time for Sam to ponder what just happened, and also dwell on the fact about how supportive Angel was.. Definitely wasn't something she was quite familiar with where she'd come from.
Her mind began to race about all those past times where she had been a brat to Angel... It started a toil of guilt over her knowing now how much the girl had to put up with her.

She couldn't quite fathom the time where she'd ever paid a single returning favor for her kindness.

....that really needed to change.

Sam shakes her head, and soon flaps her wings, dispatching off the tree. Flying down and perching upon Angel's shoulder.

"Ah, hey Sam! Fancy to see you joining us again!"

The Pikipek quickly nods with a coo, ruffling her feathers a little to settle on Angel’s shoulder.

"Well...are you up for trying to meet Tutu again?”
