Description
The first painting for Shu'alu, Volume 2: "Changing Your Forever" is of Spreelavelyore Gonzeru (Spree for short...and stiff-tongued humans). Don't let her charm and kind heart fool you, however. She is untouched as the fiercest warrior among the elite Sangushie Tribe of woodland elves. The Sangushie Warriors are the guardians of The Watchtower of the North and their golden city, Álfheim, and the Gonzeru family has been considered the last line of defense, beside The Great Wall, for many ages. - L.B. I love this image, she's exceptionally cute. Though I tend to find myself thinking a halfling for some reason and have actually used the picture as a custom portrait for a halfling character in Baldur's Gate. Perhaps an elf-halfling hybrid would be closer really.
Inspired by this portrait I'm putting the book on my to-do list of reading.

I like the fact that she looks like a teenage Elf (which according to Tolkein are immortial). She looks like the eternity of youth.

I love the color; you've given this a warm, golden glow while resorting to the use of very, very little metal (though I do love the design of her--cloak pins?). It reminds me of the egg-tempera Byzantine icons in feel, which is an interesting dichotomy with the subject matter--warrior vs. madonna. The cognitive dissonance makes one want to keep looking.
Her features are unusual; I've never seen a warrior look so nearly childlike, and it's both arresting and disturbing. I especially love that you've dodged the 'women warriors are an excuse for a pinup' mentality so prevalent for female fighters on dA (not that I'd have expected anything less from you). Lovely work.

For the design ideas of her looks and clothing, the credit has to go to L.B. Conahan. It's his character and I got a very nice brief with a lot of references. And with pretty much all the female characters, with the exception of a few, we very much went for the "ladies can still be sexy when covered in protective clothing". Some are cat-like-people, others are fairies, so those are excused
We tried to go for a more unconventional look with elves, trying to steer clear of some of the more used looks for both face and clothing.
I am very glad you like this one, as it is one of my personal favorites so far!!

I know it's repetitive, but again--it's so refreshing to see women warriors portrayed as *warriors*, who happen to be attractive. I love it--it's so very rare. And she is unconventionally elvish indeed--part of what makes the idea of her in battle so intriguing.
