So I've been meaning to do some Hobbit/Lotr fan art for awhile, and I finally got around to it! Gandalf's hair and beard were evil to draw, but I really, really enjoyed drawing the sword. In general I'm not particularly good at drawing objects, but honestly I think the sword is what I love most about this drawing, for once. This took me maybe 10 hours to draw? Give or take an hour 
This was done on A4 sketch paper (some stuff I got for Christmas and decided to try out), and I used a mechanical pencil for the most part, except for the really black areas, which I used a woodless 6B pencil. Kneaded eraser and cotton swabs, that's about it

Nice job. I like the sword too. I think some more of the 6B pencil on the hair and face (and background) will really make this piece come to life. Its all about contrast IMO. Keep up the great work!

No no, no self-deprecation necessary. You kicked this one out of the park. Those striations on the sword? That was obviously a labor of love. It looks just like tempered steel. No one should ever feel bad or less of an artist for using a reference, especially someone as talented as you!
