Description The tension in the air was nearly palpable as the two sat across from each other unspeaking. They were situated in a small Greek restaurant that was decorated with stone columns accented with ivy leaves, as well as various staff exclaiming "Opa!" whenever a new group of guests would enter the arched doorways. Napkins littered the tile flooring, as well as every other surface in the restaurant, which was thanks to the excitable staff.
The carefree attitude of the restaurant left a dry taste in Sin's mouth as she glared at the man sitting across from her. He sat immobile, his arms and legs both crossed respectively. Apparently their location didn't bother him in the least bit.
Of course it wouldn't, he was used to this kind of thing. Crowley was Greek himself, after all, so why would something so familiar heighten his anger?
Sin spoke first.
"Why did you eat Torgue?"
The question made Crowley's mouth twitch, in a smile or a sneer, Sin couldn't tell.
"Because he looked appetizing, my dear. Luscious dark hair, a kind smile. Are you upset that you didn't get to bite him first?"
Sin scoffed. "That "appetizing" man, as you called him, happened to be the best damn bartender in this city."
"Oh ho!" Crowley laughed, "So that's why he tasted so... sweet, with a sort of burning after taste to his blood. He was delicious, in case you were wondering."
At that point, another guest had entered the building, a loud "OPA!" sounding in return, causing napkins to fly askew. One casually drifted near the two, and within a second it was reduced to shreds.
"My my, dearest Sin. You really are quite concerned aren't you?"
"You could say that," Sin all but growled.
Crowley grinned. "It's so... sexy when you growl. I almost miss it. But then of course I am reminded of when you threw yourself at the queer vampire, and got turned into one yourself. Arcadian, was his name? No, no. Arcadio. Oh yes, you were quite his pet, weren't you? He has a desire for males mostly, but you, you were something else. Yes, I remember. And unfortunately your beauty as a human didn't translate well to this side of the bend, let me assure you."
"Meatball?" a server interrupted them, holding  a small white plate that was loaded with tiny meatballs on toothpicks. Apparently the server had no idea how dangerous a situation she could have just stumbled into, had she not been carrying the plate.
"Oh yes! Thank you, sweet miss." Crowley helped himself to one as the server smiled at him, transfixed. "Sin? Help yourself." Crowley smiled sweetly at the glowering vampire.
"No thanks."
"Suit yourself. These things really are delectable," he commented, popping the meatball into his mouth, chewing slowly and deliberately, all the while staring at the young sever. She blushed then and walked away quickly to another table as more napkins burst into the air.
"As was the bartender," Crowley added snidely whilst picking his teeth with the toothpick.
"We're not here to talk about our past, Basileios," she said, staring at him darkly.
It was his turn to regard her with cold eyes, clearly his human name rubbing salt in an old wound. Sin held back a small grin at her tiny victory.
"Oh I think we should, my delicate flower."
While the anger in Sin's expression would have frightened anybody else away, perhaps even startled Tetra, Crowley did nothing but smile. A still and icy silence descended over the two sitting at the table. It was like walking on someone's grave without realizing it.
Crowley decided to speak first, his voice low and patronizing.
"I mean, after all it was you who left me. It was you who said I was too controlling, possessive, too moody. Would it have been better had I told you what I was? To offer some reason for my behavior? I had plans to turn you, you should know. I figured you'd find out when that happened. But it's a good thing I didn't, isn't it? Instead you leave me, and within the hour, crawl into some other man's lap." He slammed his drink on the table, a small crack crawling up the edges of the glass.
Sin glanced at it dully, remembering the events that occurred so long ago. And then, she smiled. A small, very evil smile and met Crowley's eyes squarely. She spoke slowly and deliberately, much like when he was chewing the meatball, her tone accenting her words for the maximum effect. "Even now you're upset Bas," she used his old nickname, "that you didn't get to turn a human. You, can't turn a human when you ask. It's like rape for you, isn't it? No little princess wants to become a vampire with the big bad Crowley. No one wants to spend an eternity with you. So instead you bite them anyway and leave them in a ditch somewhere in anger. You let the degenerate fend for themselves in agony and confusion, while trying to survive when they carelessly get themselves staked. It's a punishment for the ones who don't want to crawl into your coffin, no?"
The glass shattered now, the contents filling the deep grooves of the table with dark liquid. Sin continued, unimpressed.
"It's a good thing I left, isn't it? Having no idea what you were, what you would do if I had refused. You probably would have asked, 'Sin! Spend eternity with me, agapi mou. Join me and have power, everlasting life, an easy way of living. Spend it with me and you'll be set prigkipissa!'" Sin mocked, using his old Greek endearments.
Crowley stiffened. If he had not been sitting at a table with the girl, and instead at the fountain in the middle, many would have mistaken him as a modern statue amongst the more traditional ones. His eyes were closed, his chest still. Utterly composed.
Sin pressed on. "But no, instead I left you and went to a book store, where I met a man completely unlike you. He was kind. Generous. He exuded this sort of sincerity. He bought me a large chai and we sat across from each other discussing novels. I couldn't tell why then, but I trusted in him completely. That was when it got late, and I realized I had no place to stay. I figured I'd hole up in a motel somewhere for the night, considering Kyanna was out of town then. He seemed to sense this, and invited me to return to his place. At my initial hesitation, he said I wouldn't have to worry about him doing any nasty things to me." Sin chuckled slightly. "I went with him, my arm in his, so classic. He lives in an amazing place, Bas. Did you know that? Hardwood floors, spiral staircases. Stone fireplaces. Shelves of books and artifacts."
"Stop."
"Much nicer than the dinky apartment we were living in," she resumed. "We talked deeper into the night over various cups of tea near his fireplace. He has a wonderful tea collection from all over the world, some that even I had never heard of. We spoke about everything that night. He told me about his past, such fantastic, deep, and terrifying stories. He told me what he was right from the beginning, you know, that he was a vampire? Somehow I believed him. It suited him in a way, and I never suspected him of lying. He held nothing back, and I confided in him. Told him all about you, and my past, my petty, uninteresting and boring past." She paused for just a moment, lost in her own story, but then went on. "I stayed with him for three days, while you tried so hard to find me. That's when he told me you were looking for me. He said that you wouldn't find me unless I wanted to be found. And at the end of the third day, was when he asked me. He asked me if I wanted eternity. To live, and experience wonderful things, dangerous things. To grow older with power instead of age. To build something as fantastic and rich like his own past. He said there would be some drawbacks, of course. That I would have to drink blood, avoid hunters, and that I wouldn't be able to live normally again. No children, no sunlight (at least not directly), and no church." Sin grinned, "As if I went to church anyways. Honestly, it sounded wonderful. I'd lived my whole life growing up with normal everyday motions, the same routine. Every day the same as the one before, except maybe pork chops instead of chicken, or an argument about what I was doing instead of where I was going."
"Stop it..."
"And I said yes. He asked me if I was sure, confident of my answer. He assured me that it was irrevocable. I said yes. And he held me close, cradling my body to his as he drank from my neck. There was only a small pain, but it was enthralling--"
"Damn it Lillian, I said stop." It came with a hard slap to the table as the statue finally broke.
Sin tilted her head just slightly, as Crowley regarded her with haunted eyes. "To tell me about how another vampire claimed you before I could. To do what I never... How dare you." He growled, his teeth nearly bared.
Sin smirked slightly. "Regret doesn't suit you Bas," she said flippantly. "And besides, I was only a possession to you. A cherished doll with no free will. Don't worry, though. You'll learn. One of these decades you'll find someone who can teach you what it really is to love."
"You loved Arcadio, didn't you? It's why you stayed for so long and then came back to get your things.  But you were changed. Different. And I was too late…"
"Would it make you feel better if I said no?"
He was silent then, his gaze unfocussed.
There was a long pause, and then "I loved him. As a sire. As a companion, and as a friend. He is, as you know... queer?" She laughed then, getting up from the table gracefully. "And in case you were wondering, he named me Sin for a reason."
"And what was that reason," Crowley nearly spat at her.
"Because I chose to leave this human life for no one other than myself. It was sort of a suicide, no? And we all know that that's the greatest sin." She turned to go, but stopped suddenly and turned back to him. "Oh, by the way Torgue still lives. Found his crumpled body in the alley you so casually left him in and turned him into one of us to save his life. Your left a sour taste in his 'appetizing' blood, 'let me assure you'," she mocked his words from earlier. "He's staying with me and my companion, and we're slowly teaching him the ways of 'living'. He's more adaptable than I thought he would be. You need to be careful, Crowley. He'll be serving your blood in a glass the next time you meet. Opa!"
She left the man sitting alone in the small Greek restaurant as the cold night air rushed to greet her, and smiled as Arcadio, Tetra, and even Torgue awaited her at the nearby lamppost. Freedom was good.
