c tier- ironhide, jazz, ratchet, optimus, brawl
d tier- bonecrusher, blackout
e tier- barricade
blank tiers
megatron tier
a bit generic but I wanted to do a tier list. this is purely for characters from the 2007 transformers movie... and only the transformers if you can't tell haha. not counting allspark mutations. I do wanna say up front that I'm confident in my choices of the S - B tiers and the < C tiers they're all ordered... because there's so many characters to order in them haha. but yea C tier is just difficult because while I think it's generally accurate these characters just don't do much or if they do it isn't consequential or there isn't much purpose to them it's hard it's a mixed bag of different problems and upsides I think you'll understand when I get to it. also one last thing this isn't the most concisely written thing ever it's almost written as if it's me talking since it's more of a casual activity rather than analysis.
firstly megatron tier and I will say maybe megatron is only a bit worse than barricade and I'm just letting the later movies affect my ranking of him it's possible I admit. but even in and of himself he's just such an irredeemably terrible villain let alone main villain. I've writ in depth why he's an awful character so I'll try to just be quick with megatron. he's horribly built up and contextualized I mean the first thing we learn about the main villain is that he's the leader of the decepticons.. he never ends up leading them in the final battle. the first thing we learn that he did was crash land on earth... in antarctica when the allspark is in usa. he's been frozen for 10000 years he's the reason humans have technology to defeat transformers, he calls starscream a failure when all we had seen from starscream at that point is him succeeding and all we knew about megatron is that he's the failure making him look like a child. but despite being poorly built up he's somehow still disappointing in the final battle and not only is he almost inconsequential to the final battle's result but if you cut megatron out of the movie I'd argue the decepticons probably would have won though that's it's own thing. so yea megatron if you wanna read more why he sucks I've written about it in the past look into it if you'd like.
next is barricade. don't get me wrong he's cool we all liked him as a kid. he is used effectively in one way that being artistically contrasting with optimus prime as the first 2 transformers who speak showing the difference between the cons and bots. but other than that he's absent from the final battle with no contextual reason in the movie, he's a complete idiot he has a sidekick so stealthy he can sneak around airforce 1 yet doesn't just send frenzy in to steal the glasses from sam when we see that the autobots can't detect frenzy. and he loses to bumblebee despite having almost every advantage. I've written more on barricade in an old not published piece but for now yea barricade just kind of sucks maybe he's better than the next 2 but I'd personally rank him below them.
next is blackout and bonecrusher. blackout had 1 good scene in and of itself that being the opening which was a great spectacle and set the decepticons up as threats.... which wasn't delivered on in an appropriate way. blackout himself only shoots at the autobots once in the final battle then flies off then slices a car apart then shoots another... and dies. that's it. the most powerful character he can obliterate a military base yet his only actions in the final battle were destroying 2 cars... yea he's not exactly well delivered on in the final battle. and bonecrusher has a bit more personality than the others since he has a whopping 3 or 4 lines of dialogue but other than a decent fight scene wasn't too good but his fight scene actually achieved something that being postponing optimus getting to mission city with the others even if it did end up being pointless. even in blackouts opening scene it doesn't really end up meaning much to the plot so I put him above but you could go either way tbh.
I'll try to move a bit quicker now
brawl being at the bottom of c for good reason he has no personality, he's covered head to toe in guns yet doesn't land a single shot on anyone and his only attack that did land was throwing jazz which didn't seem to do much. brawl is only above the other 2 since he just kept trying which gives him some character if not personality.
next is optimus. very inconsequential something you'll hear a lot. his fight with megatron is garbage the choreography is non existent the writing goes nowhere and means nothing. he's not shown to be as smart as you'd think an over 10 thousand year old general would be. he's likeable and even a bit funny compared to other iterations of the character but he just doesn't really matter and is a bit anticlimactic. also something that sets the autobots apart from the decepticons in the final battle is that they work together as a unit and have strategy.. while optimus wasn't even leading them. I guess it might still speak to how optimus works with his warriors but as it is not a good look for him makes him look even more irrelevant.
next is ratchet... has like 1 funny line and doesn't do much other than slice brawls arm off. it is cool to see the autobots work together again but he doesn't really do anything else or contribute anything. but overall he has less flaws than optimus so I ranked him higher even if I like optimus more.
next is jazz. I was originally gonna rank him higher but the thing with jazz is wasted potential. he really sets himself apart from the autobots especially those in later movies since he actively disagrees with optimus and offers counterpoints to optimus's leadership. ironhide and ratchet may not understand optimus but there's a difference between questioning and disagreeing. jazz could have been a cool character to keep around to offer counterpoints to optimus later on but unfortunately he's wasted by being fodder for megatron. some would say it makes megatron look scary.. you know the 35 foot tall megatron ripping the 13- 15 foot tall jazz who's at the very least going off of apperance around an 8th of megatrons mass just estimating yea I'd say that doesn't make megatron look intimidating. it'd be like Arnold Schwarzenegger ripping a baby in half gross image I know but tell me that's not basically what that is. jazz also just has a lot of personality, a cool design so he goes here but he could go higher I think.
next up is ironhide. thinking on it again you could definitely say he could go lower but I put him here at the top of c. everyone likes ironhide he's just really cool and has a great design admittedly if you look closer at his design he can look a bit flimsy but there aren't too many closeups so it's fine. he's got a great personality and it shines a bit better than characters like ratchet or... the decepticons if we're gonna even call them characters. he really gives off the feel he has experience doing this but maintains the autobot underdog appeal. he's nowhere near as strong as some of the decepticons individually demonstrated when they need to attack brawl as a group or when he does no damage to starscream and gets defeated in about 10 seconds but he was still quite active in the final battle which is more than you can say for some characters so I'd put him here above jazz especially since he wasn't really wasted.
next up in the B tier I put scorponok... okay maybe I'd change this one. the thing about scorponok though is that he doesn't really have many negative points to his character. like other characters don't amount to much or are wasted but scorponok has a pretty intense action scene with some unqiue visuals and attacks thanks to well him being a big scorpion. his action scene actually is technically important to the plot since it's how the humans realized the transformers are vulnerable to high temperature shrapnel rounds burning at a few thousand degrees c. and the action scene itself has a good flow unlike the final battle where the decepticons are either illogically absent with barricade or just not doing anything like blackout no this action scene was very just well done and quite intense. it's not much but it is a competent scene and scorponok is part of that so I'd put him here above most other characters.
next is bumblebee. the tier list has both bumblebee designs seperate I guess since maybe this is only meant for design ranking... oh well. I was originally gonna rank both bumblebee individually with what they did in their portions of the movie but... that's stupid. bumblebee is obvious if you've watched the movie. lot of personality, the mute thing wasn't annoying or pointless yet if slightly badly contextualized... like the transformers can reshape their entire bodies but can't fix their own voice box? like what. still he had some good action, great emotional scenes with sam, an underdog factor with his small size and not being illogically strong like later movies yet and he was even used well for subtle comedy. there's not much specific to say about bumblebee tbh if you've watched the movie you'd know he's just in the movie longer than other characters and ties into the humans well so naturally he's above everyone.
coming to the last few tiers I put frenzy in A tier... yes the 3 and a half foot stereo transformer is better than almost any other character. frenzy just does more than any decepticon besides starscream maybe. if anything again he's held back by barricade being an idiot which just makes frenzy funnier. his personality being a tweaky fast paced hacker ninja it just comes together so well. he's got a good presense in the movie and has an actual impact on the plot even if part of that impact is unfreezing megatron... a huge negative.
finally starscream. starscream has about 2 minutes total screentime or 1 minute and 40 seconds where he's the focus on screen and somehow does more than any other character. we're introduced to him speaking first as decepticon commander, doing a cool flip before shutting down the humans means of manually refreezing megatron.. again 1 negative but it doesn't matter too much. he doesn't have much dialogue yet still paints a contrast between him and megatron with megatron being excessive childish and incompetent while starscream is just constantly getting stuff done. he's the first decepticon to arrive to the final battle natural given he's a jet ( unlike megat-.. oh wait), in one swoop cripples the human reinforcements and blows off one of the only autobot warriors legs basically setting the decepticons up for victory. he effectively takes out ironhide and ratchet in an impressive 20 second shot, with one of the coolest transformations in the movie before reducing 2 of the only autobots left after a planetary genocide to flaming wrecks who can barely talk falling to the ground and taking no damage himself. he shoots down the helicopter on the roof of the building with statues on the roof... that's the name they give in the movie give me a break. and he takes out 3 of the same jets that crippled megatron and killed blackout the strongest decepticon in 10 seconds while taking no damage from one of their missiles to the thinnest part of his body. not only is he shown to be the second strongest character in the movie but he's efficient, cool has a great powerful visual design t rex legs on a triangle the shape that represents power in nature and topping it off with his hawk/insectoid like head and the fact he literally transforms into the same jet that well crippled megatron and killed blackout. and unlike megtron who loses due to being a dumbass and not just grabbing the allspark at several points he could have even being outrun by a human he has almost 30 feet on, starscream has a more contextualized reason he fled at the end being there were 20 f22s in the air which transformers 2 would provide even more reasons for that being he had to ensure the next generation decepticons survive. sorry for bringing in another movie I wanted to keep it contained but thought it was worth mentioning. I'm going on a bit but if you seriously would describe michael bay starscream as a weak cowardly treacherous incompetent then you're not actually a michael bay transformers fan you're just cancelling the characters down to names.
well that's my tier list. again pretty confident on the placement of all the characters in every tier except c. like you could move ratchet below brawl or jazz above ironhide but yea pretty happy with it. if you'd like to make your own points write them in the comments or make your own whatever you'd like but I'm confident mine is fairly objective.
