I don't watch much cartoons/anime or read manga/comics as a rule.. when the first time Samurai X anime was showed on tv I basically ignored it.. but one day, I happened to be sitting with my brothers when they were watching tsuiokuhen (trust and betrayal) .. despite the medium of presentation.. the story came alive... and I read the entire manga series in two weeks..Β
In a lot of ways for me, Kenshin's struggles to do good, his choices, are very much what we face everyday.. his methods and his resolve are lessons and motivation for me.. Watsuki-san was wise enough not to include too many frills in his story telling so what was left was stark and unforgiving agony.. and I keep on coming back to de-stress myself mostly.. most timesΒ I don't have a lot of time to paint so my emotional release was the familiarity of the RK world... I was quite the fan of anime and manga but some years back I kind of cooled down and read/watched anything new nor old, but because of my brother, I thought it might be nice to show him some shows I enjoyed as a child and Samurai X was one of my choices, so it got me back to those old memories and I got very happy to see how everything had happened in the story, since I never finished it at the time. I've even been able to actually buy Trust and Betrayal, it's such a beautiful and sad work.
The theme of the story and characters of Samurai X, but especially Kenshin himself, are quite interesting indeed, complex and rather deep. Like I said, I watched the show like 15 years ago when it aired in TV here, and despite never getting to the end or remembering most characters (I didn't remember most names except for Kenshin's for exemple) it was a story that always stayed on my mind as 'that japanese cartoon I really liked as a kid'. Coming back to it all this time later, it's really good to discover all these things I didn't get to know before, but also to rediscover how meaningful it actually is.
Even if it was a mean for you to de-stress yourself and for emotional release, I think it's good you had the world of RK to serve that purpose for you, I think it's important to have that sort of 'support'

Not just support and emotional release actually.... the complexity the characters, the believability of their struggles etc are precisely the reasons Rurouni Kenshin has been a part of my life for so long.. when other stories have been momentary entertaining distractions.. Β and I have been a Japanese buff for even longer... Akira Kurosawa, Toshiro Mifune etc.. (just not much manga, previously..)

Wow some I never seen before. I like the one of Kenji by the water. I also love the one of Kenshin holding baby Kenji. β₯
The 3rd row, 2nd pic is that from the fanfic called Only the Beginning by Lolo Popoki?
