Kenshin & Tomoe, the night before the battle in the forest of barriers
Kenshin promising to protect her happiness...
And Tomoe...we can only imagine how she was feeling that night, realising that she had fallen for him, inadvertently betraying her first love and now she is a pawn to bring down this second love...

The title is the song title and also a prayer...
song is angsty enough...some of the lyrics seemed to fit her feelings, and some of his. (No, I don't speak Korean, I just looked it up)
I had a devil of a time trying to get Tomoe's looks..realistic and yet resembling the manga, the right expression (at one point I was going to throw the whole piece out, deleted her eyes entirely after I had painted the whole face and restarted..and the HAIR..initially she looked like *yikes* a goth chick..

adjusted the lighting and the shading on Tomoe's face to correspond with Kenshin, still have some issues but I figure I'll save it for my next piece

That's wonderful. I ship Kenshin and Kaoru but am also a big Tomoe defender. She was anything but a villain.

I don't think Tomoe needs defending at all. She's a girl who made mistakes and wrong judgments and was duped by people who live on duplicity. We all have our own experiences and have had to suffer the consequences, hers was greater that any of us can admit to.
And yet she was strong enough to be a sheath to Battousai at the height of his madness and sacrifice herself so that he can redeem himself. Not many of her detractors or accusers would be able to the same... if any.

Though I could not say that I see a 15-year-old boy here, I love this work. And I love Kenshin and Kaoru pairing, but I don't know why a lot of people hate Tomoe and "picture" her as a devil in their fictions. I do hate that. Tomoe "was" an incredible woman and suffered a lot of pain. Kenshin caused her a lot of pain and despite of that she fell in love with him and died for him. She didn't want to be the reason for another one's death, especially nor for her lover's one.
Here I can see her as I think she "was". I could not read her thoughts and she looks into him like wanting to know all about him (Is he real? I would want to believe him).

At the moment, as with all my other old paintings, I have a love hate relationship with this one,.. by the time I finished this the technical stuff just bugs me; .... sometimes I can't even seen any of the emotions I wanted to convey here, I'm just going by viewers feedback to see if I've hit the right chords...
About Tomoe and Kenshin vs Kaoru and Kenshin... all I can say is, some people need their own growing up to do, and they've got to do it on their own and they're got to live a life to do it...
As for me... I love them both.. and I love the way Watsuki told the story.

yup... totally unexpected, unintended and unwilling and all the deeper because she see's how much he needs it..
the underlying guilt just it makes her more willing to sacrifice herself...

ah..but the contest is Tomoe-centric, and its a specific scene in the story, where she confessed to Kenshin about her background but did not tell him the story..so the conflict is there in her eyes..I forgot, I wrote the background in the detail portion which I posted first
I found it interesting to do Tomoe though, she was a difficult subject.
