Description

Petirrojo means redish chest in Spanish. It’s my native tongue name for robins. I use to watch them in the gardens around my home, mainly in winter; they’re very brave and sassy. That and the fact I haven’t used watercolors in long time encouraged me to draw a couple of them and trying to make them really fluffy. I used several new techniques for this pic and I spent around 4 hours in drawing them only.

 ***

Hey, you're doing watercolors now, too! This is wonderful, just as I'd expect from you. I really love the touches of yellow highlight throughtout; adds just a touch of excitement to an otherwise tranquil piece.

Thank you so much. Actually I always love to paint with watercolors, but traditional technicles are quite messy, so I usually give them up and I use CG instead, which is less messy and dirty. However, time to time, the feels of traditiona technicles strike me back.
As for this pic, I used several photos as refference. since it has snowy spots and the white background, it needed some lighting. Glad you like it and thank you for the

I have no idea how they compare to American robins, but my mom always complained about them being “brainless.” Which is saying a lot, as my mom loves birds. Apparently not robins... I love that you drew one all fluffed up! Birds always look adorable in their pursuit of warmth.

well. Aparentely the American robins are related ith black birds and not the flycatchers, unlike robins. The only real resemblance is the fact they both share a red chest. Anyway, your mom is right: they both seem to be quite brainless and protective with their home surroundings.
Thank you for your coments. I tried to make them adorable and fluffly. It's hard to get such effect with watercolors.

They still don't look that much like American ones. Ours have yellow beaks, completely black faces and heads, and the red goes much further down their belly. I had to remind myself that Ame's from a different country when I saw that these were "robins."

I don't think U.S. robins are sassy, either. They're always kinda laid back, and much less intrusive and more cautious than other birds like doves or the winter birds... i dunno if they are sparrows or wrens.

To tell the truth, I don't know. Usually, the blackbird family tends to walk over the ground, catching worms and such, and gets hidden in a blink if there is any danger around... But I don't know if American robins are like that since, well, I haven't seem them, never.
European robins are insectivore and very territorial, so they act very sassy. I guess the only resemblance is the red coated chest.
