First layer done of this experimental portrait ✨ I know I started sharing the story of this experimental painting a few months ago, unfortunately as usual I got distracted and but I'm back now! Follow along as I do something very different for me, which is not overthinking and over planning when painting, so just some loose painting and seeing how it turns out.

Here I’m focusing on laying down the ground work for the colours I’m going to use in this piece. Here I want this to be brighter and vibrant 🔥 I’m hoping this will be achieved by laying down yellows and reds seeing the effects they create and the following layers while enhance the effects this initial layer has created.

If you look just along the top part of her chin you see this kind of spiking look in the red colouring, in watercolour that’s called a bloom. It when there is too much water in a certain section and it pushes the pigment away from an area creating this sharper edge. Usually this is something I try to avoid or cover up but I’ve been seeing other artists use it to their advantage so I think for this paint I’ll attempt to play off it 🤞
