Description Again, part of the tumblr game mentioned here.Β altermentality.deviantart.com/…

It hasn't been as long for this guy! Less than a year. The last time I drew him was when I found out he was returning for Dream Team. I'm actually in the middle of playing that game for myself, finally!

Popple is from Mario & Luigi. (c) Nintendo and AlphaDream

I believe that you pretty much nailed his grin there.

Ahh this looks really cool! Β That teethy grin is amazing, it really gives him so much character.

Thanks! I'm only creating a pale imitation of the game. His expressions were CRAZY, which is one reason I love him so much. That game has to have my favorite sprite-work ever. SO FANTASTIC.

Since I see a discussion on crossovers involving Popple, I shall quickly share the headcanon I have with Popple in that I believe he's the younger brother of MC Ballyhoo from the Mario Party series. No one knows what MC Ballyhoo actually is but he looks like a beanish and they're both "crooks" in a way. Ballyhoo is just more subtle and focuses more on screwing people over with his Star Carnival (the wiki says he enjoys fairness but come on, anybody who hosts a Mario Party game has a slightly twisted streak) and Popple is more overt.

That being said, I really enjoyed Popple, even if it took me a second playthrough to really appreciate him. My first playthrough I actually didn't like the guy because I wasn't sure where the Rookie side story was gonna lead and I was filled with "augh, you stupid thief and your stupid memory-less Bowser!" feelings.

I really like the texture you used for this. It makes me think of fabric for some reason, like he's in some Mario version of Kirby's Epic Yarn.

Eh, he doesn't look like a Beanish to me, but that's a fun theory.

Fabric Mario! From the people who brought you Paper Mario.
Speaking of that, my new working theory is that Intelligent Systems were too busy funneling creativity into making Fire Emblem: Awakening a great game with great characters that they just kinda forgot what they were doing with Sticker Star.

Maybe he's half-beanish on Popple's mother side? I dunno, I always was reminded of Popple playing that game and so it shall be. That's the closest anyone's gonna get for a species on the guy anyways.

(plus this is the closest we're going to get to actual Beanish appearing in Mario Party unless Mario Party 10 finally unleashes the floodgates of awesome and make, say, Fawful playable.)

Now that I'm actually playing Fire Emblem Awakening (as in, actually levelling people instead of just going to each chapter immediately), I'm inclined to agree with you. I'm making sure in my Club Nintendo review, I make a note that I do enjoy the story and characters in that game so we don't get another Sticker Star.

I like the guy, even though I've only played a tiny bit of any game he's in. I think just because he's an unusual/unique character in a game that you'd just kind of expect to trot out all the Mario staples. He looks like he's straight out of one of the RPGs.

Out of the two that you did for the tumblr game mentioned, I find myself liking this one a little more. There's something about the texture you used paired with your linework that I think fits better on Popple compared to Cackletta & Fawful. That, and I think his expression helps him stand out a little more, and it even takes me back to remembering his antics in Superstar Saga :>

Thanks! Well, Popple is my favorite anyway Yeah, I discovered this new brush that creates kind of that comic-book-printed feel. I'll probably be using it more often!

AAAAH oops

He doesn't play that big of a role (I don't think??), but he shows up! Sorry, I had seen screenshots of him before the game even came out so I didn't think to avoid spoilers

Oh, Popple. Some of my friends and I have tons of jokes about Popple. Most of them involve shipping him with Mona from the Warioware games. XD

Mario crossover ships can be fun. There are just SO MANY GAMES with SO MANY CHARACTERS.

Do you have any ships like that?

Actually, not that I can think of, haha. Except for Mimi/Doopliss, but they're from the same series so it's not even that crazy.

Thanks! It really was. Even though I didn't play it until I was a freshman in college... that was like six years ago?? I still have a lot of nostalgia for it, almost like something that's been with me even longer. (To be fair, college changed me a lot!)
