Description

Now, I like to think that Vaas' father (in my case, OC Thiago-Bautista Montenegro | x | + | x | ) had a short-lived, whirlwind affair with Vaas' mom (OC Eyotta Talugmai | x | + | x | ) while she was still married to some man from her tribe or other and she hoped that, being a pirate and a drug-runner who just so happened to find his way to Rook, he would whisk her away to Argentina (because, Argentinian wine, get it?) or wherever his sea-fearing ways might actually take him because deep down, while she loved her island and her people, she craved a certain dosage of freedom, freshness and wanderlust - but, not knowing that good, ol' Thiago pretty much had a family, kids, whores and a wife in every port he visited and that he was overall something of an irresponsible, childish womanizer with an army of illegitimate children he didn't even know or care about, he left her with a swollen belly after a summer fling and went along his merry way, with not a care in the world - Vaas probably grew up close to his mom nonetheless and was her constant companion while she was expecting Citra a few years later, something of a bittersweet scorn and union between her and her cuck of a husband and an instant divide between Vaas and Citra - who was seen as the beloved, honored daughter and heiress of a legitimate, traditionally-sanctified, arranged tribal marriage between a Rakyat Chief and Chieftaness while Vaas was the shameful, mixed offspring of an illicit romp with a Latin-American foreigner and criminal and an overall embarrassment to everyone. Suffice to say, Eyotta probably never really got over Thiago and his betrayal and still kept tokens of his (the crossed-out photographies, for example) thus instilling the feelings of inadequacy, loneliness, rage, isolation, depression and the extreme need to prove himself worthy to the tribe in a kiddie Vaas. Also might be where his overall family issues stem from. Baby Montenegro probably realized that everyone's lives would've been much easier without him (even his mother's, who he witnessed succumb to a deep depression for this very reason) due to the fact that he was the definition of a "plan horribly gone wrong" and that he never had an actual father figure because his real father didn't want him and his foster-father saw his a nuisance and an eternal reminder that an outsider integrated the Rakyat through a woman's infidelity. Basically, everything went downhill from there.
