Description Darkness. Darkness and pain. Thats all it was at that moment.
I ran. Dear lord i ran. I don't think i've ever ran like that in my life. This wasn't running for the hell of it. This was running out of abject terror. My legs pounded over the uneven terrain. I dodged trees and stumbled through foliage. Branches were constantly stinging my face. I could feel blood trickling down my face from where i had slammed my nose into a tree trunk. I had picked myself up from that fall and kept running. Was it broken? I didn't have time to check, nor did i really care. I just knew i had to keep running. I wished i knew my way around that bloody forest! I was just running blind. All the while i could hear it following me. A constant pounding, something far more agile and fast. It obviously could see around the trees. But that didn't matter. All that mattered was to escape. Escape and find some help.
God i left them all back there. but what could i have done? they were all dead when i found them. Dead and being eaten. So what could i do? I grabbed a shotgun lying on the ground and ran. I something when i grabbed the gun. Was is a badge? did they call for the poilice? I don't know. Maybe they were being followed like me. Although i'll be damned if i'm going to end up like them. Strewn all over the ground while they were ripped open. Even in the moonlight i could see their bodies. And the sound. Dear god the sound. it was the sound of teeth ripping flesh. Creatures from the depths of a nightmare feasting on the flesh of their victims.
I stumbled again. The gun fell out of my hands and rolled in front of me. I got up and felt around for it. I was panicking. I couldn't panic. Damnit i couldn't panic. Panicked people are dead people.
I Grabbed finally grabbed the gun then forze. The sound of my pursuer running had stopped. Now i could hear breathing. It was nearby, panting. Was it tired like me?
I pulled the gun up in front of me. Was the safety off? was it even loaded? I didn't know. it was times like this I wished i knew more about guns.
I turned around and tried to find where the breathing was coming from. I looked around. the forest was total darkness but my eyes were beginning to become accustomed to the dark. Suddenly something moved. was it my imagination? No that was real. It moved again. i could see something in the trees.
Just then I heard tree branches break as something lunged at me . i jumped back and felt something catch at my shirt. I began to bring the shotgun around to fire when i suddenly saw something, moonlight catching off of teeth coming at my chest. I brought my left arm up to shield myself. My arm exploded in pain as sharp teeth sunk through my shirt and into my arm. I tried to stifle my scream but it came out as a lame shout. whatever held onto me was trying to pull me down. I resisted and tried to shake my arm free, but the thing wasn't letting go. It pulled back, I resisted. It pulled back agian, I resisted again. It began to thrash around, I felt the pain reverberate up my arm with every motion. I looked down at my arm and saw a pair of yellow eyes staring at me. I was suddenly paralyzed with fear. I couldn't move. Should I just let the thing kill me? Pray for a quick death? Then i remembered. I was still holding the shotgun! I'm not gonna die without a fight. I pulled it up and placed the barrel and placed it directly between the pair of eyes. Suddenly the thing stopped struggling and looked at the gun. It didn't let go of my arm but it stopped trying to rip it off. It looked at the gun, then at me, then at the gun again... I tried to hold the gun steady but a shotgun is heavy and it began to fall. It fell only a few centimeters and rested on the creatures snout. My eyesight began to get better and through the pain I could see that it was a wolf. A damned wolf. But this wasn't any ordinary wolf. No wolf understands what a gun is. Could it be a? No it damn well better not be one.
" God please don't let it be what i think it is"
I thought to myself. But the evidence was mounting. I saw a paw come up from its side. It had a thumb on it. bloody hell but it was a damned werewolf. The paw came towards the gun and i jammed it hard in between its eyes. The paw went from the gun and moved to my neck before i could react.
Now we had reached a standoff. If i pulled the trigger then doubtless its claw would rip through my neck. And if it cut my throat i'd pull the trigger. It wasn't letting go of my arm and i wasn't letting go of the gun.
Lord but my arm hurt. Now that the initial shock of the bite had worn off I could feel the pain more distinctly. Every second new pulses of pain came up my arm. I had to think of something. I didn't know much about werewolves. But i knew that they never travel alone. Or do they? Damnit i didin't know. Everything i've ever seen on werewolves contradicts the other thing i've seen. Still the fact remained i needed to get this thing off of me.
I was pulled out of my thoughts when I felt something on my arm. The damn things tounge was moving around on my arm. I could hear it try and swallow my blood as it poured into its mouth. It had trouble swallowing with my arm in its mouth. I stared into its eyes. For some reason this thing wasn't meeting my gaze. Its eyes kept darting from the gun to the area around it. It looked scared. Then as my eyes finally adjusted to the night I could see more features of the wolf. It looked young. I know a bit about animals. and i know that wolf cubs don't look threatening. This one looked kind of goofy. Well it would have if it didn't have its jaws wrapped around my forearm. It must have been a cub. It wasn't as tall as me thats for sure. It Must had been waiting for help. I had to act fast. I had to think of something, anything to get this little bastard off me. Then suddenly, i got an idea.

I had a plan. Well it wasn't much of a plan. More of a desperation measure, but it was the only thing i could think of. The werewolf kept shifting its weight back and forth. It must have been waiting for help. The longer it kept me here the better its chances were of killing me. I started moving my weight on my legs as well. The bastard moved with me. its eyes were still fixated on the shotgun. I moved until i figured i was in the best position and counted to three in my head. The risk here didn't fall on the move itself, but on the thing i was using it on. If it was a male then this should work, but if it was a female then i was going to die.
I jerked the gun into his head again to draw attention away from my feet.
"1..2...3!" I shouted and kicked. The shout startled the wolf, it tried to twist away from my kick but was too late. I struck it dead centre in between the legs. The wolf gave a howl of pain that was muffled by my arm. Looks like it really was a male.
The wolf let go of my arm and doubled over in pain. It tried to shrug off the pain and come at me again. I brought the butt of the shotgun down onto the monster's head. He slowed but still tried to get up. I slammed down again and again. I was screaming incoherently at the creature, venting all of my frustration out on the back of his head. Finally the wolf gave a shudder and fell face first on the ground. I bent over to check it and could hear that it was still breathing. Damnit but i had only knocked it out. That was something i was going to have to fix.
I rolled him over onto his back and stood over him. My anger was being fueled by the pain in my arm. I pointed the shotgun directly down at his face. I wanted him to know that i was going to blow his head off. I wanted him to know that this is what happens when you mess with me. I wanted him to fear me. To pray he'd never attacked me, or even knew I existed. Something stopped me though. Damnit but something always stops me when i want to vent my anger. I looked down into his face. Although it was tough to see I thought i could see tears in his eyes. They might have been from the kick. But i could see terror in his eyes.
"goddamnit if you think tears are going to stop me from killing you then you have something else coming" I put the shotgun against my shoulder and readied myself for the kick.
I pulled the trigger.

You know things weren't always like this. Thats such a cliche isn't it? Its not like anyone is going to think i spend all my free time running from monsters in the woods. i'm no hunter of the undead. Hell the only real guns i've ever fired was in basic training in the reserves. The only foresting experience was when i went camping with friends or when i had to do navigational work in the reserves. I've never had to navigate my way through the woods at night while being chased.
Still I suppose its a good idea to give some background as to how i ended up like this. Standing over a werewolf, ready to end its life.
Well it all started about a few days ago. Was it a Thursday? I think it was a Firday. Whatever day it was doesn't really matter. The fact was that i was going with a group of scouts up into the woods for a weekend camping trip. I was invited by one of the leaders who went to my church. The scouts used the church as a meeting hall and i came every once and a while to help. So they asked me if i wanted to come with them camping. I like the outdoors, even after this whole experience it's still something i enjoy. I agreed and went with 7 other adults and 25 kids. Damn...Its always hard remembering those kids, god but they didn't deserve that. No one did. Still there was nothing i could have done to help them.
We went up into the woods. It was like something out of a bad horror movie. The park ranger had told us to watch out for bears. Nothing strange there. Then he told us that a number of hikers had gone missing, and if we saw anyone or found any lost equipment to report to a ranger station. Nothing strange there either, hikers get lost all the time. We set up camp and began doing activities. i had fun, I showed the kids how to make snares and whatnot. You know, usual woodsy stuff. After the first day I woke from my tent to find one of the leaders talking to a forest ranger.
"what's wrong?" I aksed.
"Andrew some of the kids are missing" the leader told me.
"what? when did they go missing John?"
"just last night. I woke up and started waking to the kids up but Sean and Constantine were missing." John replied.
"don't worry we'll find them" the Ranger told us "they probably just wandered out to go exploring"
"what kids go exploring in the middle of the night?" I said at the ranger.
I went with the ranger to look for the kids. We were out most of the day. we constantly called for the kids but couldn't find them. After hors of searching I decided to call it a day. I called out for the ranger, but got no response. I called out again, still nothing. I began to search for him. It was if he had just vanished. There was no way he would leave me out here. So I began trying to find my way back to camp but nothing looked familiar. Damnit but this was perfect. Now on top of the kids being lost I had to be found as well. I walked and walked. Nothing looked familiar. Night was setting in and I had to find my way back. Finally I started seeing familiar scenery. Luckily I had thought to mark my way while we were searching. I made it back to camp and saw the grizzly scene which was once a camp. The tents had been ripped open. People were strewn about and being consumed by werewolves. There were no screams. They had all been silenced long ago. The only sound was that of eating. So I ran and ran/ Which brings us back to where we left off.
Now where was I? Oh right I had pulled the trigger...
