The Umbral Guard are the elite cadre of Terminator armoured veterans of the Chapter that are charged with the sacred duty of guarding the Council Master at all times. Though often unseen, they are ever present lurking in the shadows. Arrayed in midnight black Tactial Dreadnought Armour, only the dim red glow of their optics gives their presence away. As the Council Master's personal Honour Guard, it is their sworn duty to ensure the well-being of the Chapter Master at all times. This means these veteran warriors have forgone the chance to lead their brothers in battle ever again. To adopt this honour means more than simply walking in the shadow of the Lord of Shades and laying down their lives for him. They must stand fast and pay witness while others strike at the enemy, never seeking out the glory of battle save when the Council Master commands. When an enemy proves itself worthy only of utter destruction and the Umbral Guards' withheld fury is finally unleashed, they fall upon their foes like a thunderbolt, becoming the avatars of the Raven Lord's carefully controlled anger.
