Description

A Gypsy woman is asking Napoleon for safe passage through his lines for her caravan in exchange for information on the enemies' position. Napoleon and Jacque don't look to trusting of her... it could be another Pesky Prussian trick!

I listened to this a lot while drawing this...

I really like the palette of this scene!Β  Great use of digital painting to make the ground look all muddy and marshy too--it looks exactly how it would if an army had been passing through and trampling down the grass!Β  I also like the fact that the only eyes we truly see are Napoleon's and the Gypsy's--everyone serving Napoleon aren't worthy enough to have their full faces seen. lol

Aw thank you so much! I based it off a real painting so I had some direct inspiration. I love drawing and painting trampled pathways and fields.

That is so funny! I didn't even really intend that but it makes so much sense!!!! Haha!

You are most welcome!Β  Ohh, that's a good idea!Β  So many great historical paintings to choose from to put your own little twist on.

NO ONE outshines Napoleon!

As a hungarian, I say that it's safer to fight through the Prussian unprepared than to trust a Gypsy.

Aside that, I'm certain that this is a pesky Prussian trick, probably to scout the French main force. I would be willing to wager that this women is nothing, but a german agent in disguise. Gypsies are not known to have light skin and blue eyes. Heck, the hussar on the left is more likely to be a gypsy than that women.

Still, nice piece of art. One rarely sees such encounters during a campaing.

It's more than likely is a Prussian trick. I wonder if Napoleon will feed this spy false information.

Don't think he'll need it. From what I read from his biography, the Prussians were his most feeble enemies, crushing themΒ spectacularly. The glories of the seven years war were long gone by then.

We Prussians and Saxons are known to be both pesky and sneaky.

Excellent work. I'm now asking you the same question I asked MasterDoodleJoe80062 --Β  With zero interruptions and smooth workflow, exactly how long does it take you to produce a piece like this?

They are but in this time period their army wasn't all it was cracked up to be. So I doubt this trick will work.

This one took me two days solid. It all depends on how complex the picture is.

Even if they do let her in it probably still wouldn't work for them.

The great Carl von Clausewitz said of his own army.Β  "Behind the fine facade, all was mildewed."Β

Besides the Iron Marshal Davout would deal with them in his usual fashion.

Can you trust a Gypsy? Can you trust anyone in war? Depends on the Gypsy. I'd imagine they don't have much love for the Prussians though. Not many cared much forΒ Romani even to this day.Β Β Β

This is true. It can be hard to tell who is friend and foe. I don't see the Gypsies liking the Prussians either but you never know is she really a Gypsy? 0.o
