LOLOLOL ok i tried the antique painting..and it was a fail on vinyl lmaoit sets, but..it leaves horrible brush marks ;(
im pretty much done now...just gotta make a few minor adjustments
and i....gotta figure out what to do with my top...the automail makes it look so bulky ;(
(the wig is not for ed lol, i just threw on my zidane wig)
and pleaase excuse my messy bathroom ^^:

i've been getting alot of messages telling me that i made the automail on the wrong arm...
but this is a mirrored image XD
so thank god i am safe on that part lol
also to answer many of your questions, i made this out of vinyl wrapped styrene

took me forever to get it to be fitted on my arm ;(
this... slightly cuts off my blood circulation in my upper arm and fingers LOL
soo.... i pray that my arm wont fall off
i know its kinda inaccurate but i really didn't feel like trying to figure out some parts ahaha i need to hurry up and just finish everything so i dont have to stay up all night for once before a con!!! XD
will replace this with final project asap!! WOOOT

What gauge(thickness) styrene did you use? Also how did you get the shape for the arm? Did you heat it up? Could you do it with a hair dryer? Or did you use a vacuum? Oh and do you think you could use rub'n'buff for the metallic color?

i don't really know what size i used for styrene but i think it was either .003 or .002 (was donated to me from a friend)
i retained its shape by reinforcing it with vinyl and attaching it to another connecting piece of automail parts.
and i have no idea about the rub n buff lol

i have thought about using sheet metal... but is hard to work with to make into an automail... and risks of cutting :/

I have to say it is very impressive! What sort of plastic do you use? I'm looking to make some cosplay (for the first time) with armor and would love any tip you could give, this came out great!

you did make it on the wrong arm... you made it on the left arm, not the right arm (where its supposed to be). oh well, still looks pretty cool

the fingers are too big. you can try spray painting it and use polyurethane paint.
polyurethane paint is important because this is what manufacturers use on toys and cellphone casings so the item would have the extra gloss but without the harmful effects.
its a clear paint, so you can use any paint you have to design that automail and than after that paint it with clear polyurethane paint so the color and tone you want will not be washed over.
Why not try using Chrome Spray paint and then polyurethane paint to give it a permanent chrome effect.
or try flat black and mix with dark yellow or gold (in proper moderation) so it would have that Carbon Fiber that Edward uses once, or just to make it look like Greed's Carbon Fiber.

considering the fact of how the fingreplates were made of plastic, geometrically shaped, and gloves were worn underneath, it was rather difficult to make them any smaller and fitting to look like my real finger size ;(

if it leaves brush strokes maybe you can dab it on? like with just the tips of the bristles? so it looks more speckly like old metal instead of all over

if that's your bathroom being messy I'd hate to see what you think of my 7x7ft bathroom is. lol I'm on potty, left hand out shower, face forward a few inches sink, right hand out door. a shelf thing above potty holds towels and stuff and well, no room but for one person. if your rounded person you wont get to the potty.... LOL I think the bathroom was a thing that was added on to the house. only thing that has a door on it other than the front and back doors.

I like how it looks now ^__^ but if you want to tray to do the old effect NOT PROVE in this amazing work it will be a pitty if mess up รณ_รฒ try first on a erst of the material you used and if you like the reslut then do it ^__^

yeaa i kinda do agree on that, wearing it under my shirt makes it look SOOO BULLKKYYY!! i tried fixing it but its because of the way the top rests on my shoulder ;(

i think it's ok though; the automail shoulder is supposed to be bigger than his other shoulder, so it looks right if it's a little bulky
