Description The plum (ume) is one of the "Four Noble or Honorable Gentlemen" (shi kun shi) that exemplifies admirable qualities. Because of its pure white flowers and delicate fragrance, it is said to symbolize "a man with great character". The plum also represents winter among the shi ku shi.

It's my first sumi-e style painting.
Done with indian ink & water on book paper with a #9 round brush + CS2

Oh, and on a side note, the little red kanji (Chinese character) means “honor”. Something I put in since most of the sumi-e paintings I’ve seen bear a red stamp of their respective painters. But since I do not have a stamp of my own, I thought of using that particular kanji because of the honorable virtues present in those 4 Gentlemen. Plus, the paintings do look more balanced with that little unassuming red kanji.
