Es altamente nocivo para cualquier organismo vivo. En el caso de un humano, comienza a enfermarse en el acto, su piel se empieza a deteriorar lentamente, así como todo el organismo. Si el afectado por el Dokusei, utiliza alguna técnica que requiera chakra, la enfermedad comenzará a expandirse más rápido y terminaría matándolo.
El Dokusei solo puede frenarse con la sangre de algún miembro del clan Kurayami, inyectándola al afectado por vía intravenosa.
